Incest in the Bible

Post by bluesman »

Genesis 20:12

"and yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not
the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife."

Abraham married his half-sister Sarah !

I know this and other examples of incest in the Bible is used by athesists against the Bible and against God.

So how do we answer and deal with this conflict?

Simple. Make them tell you why it's a conflict. Just because someone does something doesn't mean God condoned it. Further, in Abraham's case, the Mosaic Law wasn't yet around, so there was no Law for him to violate.

Does the fact that David murdered Uriah prove the Bible is wrong because a regenerate individual committed a sin? Of course not. Then neither do the improper actions of other saints, including incest, polygamy, etc.

And that, brothers and sisters, is the kind of foolishness you get people who insist on denying biblical theism. A good illustration of any as the length people will go to avoid acknowledging basic truths.
