I think it's more a thing of how far he'd be willing to take his sensibilities, given the opportunity. And those sensibilities kill incentives and competition.

Of course, that's baloney. A big fat sausage of baloney. The President isn't an emperor; his power is limited. A Sanders' presidency wouldn't turn the U.S. into a Scandinavian-style social democracy.

Enough of this Socialism bogeyman! Sanders (like Trump) is a man of integrity who doesn't change his message to please the vested interests of his party. Aren't you guys tired of politicians who are yes-men to the fithy-rich who really call the shots?

y:-?

Yes, even given the OPPORTUNITY - of COURSE - the powers of any one president are relatively limited, but they still CAN and often do set the pace, agenda and influence for much mayhem. Just look at Bush and Iraq. All the mayhem takes is ENOUGH followers of bad ideas and willingness to implement vehicles to implement them - and typically enabled by the low-information types that help elect them. The problem is, politicians are people, and so many are sheeple - always looking for the latest political rock star or savior to line up behind - or to conveniently use. Hitler didn't initially have much personal power either - not at first (and NO, I'm not comparing Sanders to Hitler :D ).

Well...people are people and they will always follow the most charismatic leader from among the candidates that the powers-that-be have selected for them. That's just the way things are.

The point of my intervention here was to point out that Bernie Sanders isn't a socialist. If you want to see a socialist politician, look towards the Scandinavian countries. (By the way, socialism is well implanted there and hasn't destroyed the economy...those countries have the highest standard of living in the world! )

Did you really just say that Trump is a man of integrity who doesn't change his message to please the vested interests of his party?

And you were serious?

I don't know about integrity, but the second part of the statement is true. Trump never changes his message, apologizes for anything, or admits a mistake. If he says something ridiculous and/or offensive he follows it up by insisting that the rest of the world misunderstood him. The sad thing is that it's working for him. I guess that'll teach the Republican leadership to cheese off their base.

Never changes his message? You're kidding, right?

Just look at what he stood for in the past. He's clearly changed his message.

My understanding of socialism is everyone on the same level -- not especially rich Or poor. But Who is to determine What 'level' is the Right level. Everyone Should have the same opportunities -- but people don't use those 'opportunities' the same Way. Some are leaders and others are followers. Some can build the castle, others will be the floor sweeper, others washing the clothes, others making the beautiful clothes that the castle builder wears. And there will be others who sit outside the castle door waiting for the left overs. And there will Also be those who start out as floor sweeper and learn to be more and more -- able to climb the corporate ladder and build their own castle. THAT won't happen in socialism.
Someone who starts out with 'our' best interests at heart CAN turn around and become our worse enemy -- and since he wouldn't Need anyone's help -- who would be able to stop him.
It was thought by Some that our present leader was The Answer and look what's happened to That. So - really -- no Person is the Perfect leader -- only when Jesus Christ returns to rule will we have True Righteous leadership.
So -is my understanding of socialism correct?!

No. One of the world's richest men, the founder of IKEA lives in Sweden, a social democracy or "socialist" state in American thinking. Sweden is also the home of a manufacturer whose cars cost $3 million dollars a piece. The 3 Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden are social democracies with a quality of life index higher than that of most developed countries, including yours.

I am no socialist myself. I just wish you gringos would open your eyes and look at the facts. In any event the U.S. will never become a social democracy because it just isn't in your mindset.

Trump is a self-serving hypocrite!

NY Times, today: " Updated, 6:50 p.m. | Donald J. Trump and Bill Clinton used to be golfing buddies and occasional telephone friends. Mr. Trump donated to the former president’s charitable foundation. Mr. Clinton attended the billionaire developer’s lavish third wedding in 2005.

But as Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential candidate who is leading most polls, sets his sights on a potential general election matchup against Hillary Clinton, he is making her husband’s history of marital infidelity a central issue. On Monday, Mr. Trump accused Mr. Clinton of having a “terrible record of women abuse” and warned that he would be a liability to her campaign.

If Hillary thinks she can unleash her husband, with his terrible record of women abuse, while playing the women's card on me, she's wrong!

So, Trump was golfing and doing phone calls with Slick Willy, donating to the Clinton Foundation, invited BOTH Clintons to his third wedding - and now this. Integrity, not so much!

That's a perfect example of Trump changing his message because his old friends don't help him anymore, now that he decided to pretend to be a conservative republican for this election.

Phillip and RickD, what does any of that have to do with his integrity? He hasn't denied any of that. He had friendly relations in all areas of politics. Isn't that smart? Doesn't that show he can get along with multiple groups?

brothers, am i the only one who is having a difficult time with any description of politicians and the word integrity ?

absolutely agree with this Mallz. he is a negotiator par excellence. He's also childish, petty, peevish, boorish, insulting and arrogant. He's a billionaire, he can be ... and as of right now i see it as a republican loss in november if hillary runs against the donald ... perhaps things will change... well they will change to some degree over the next 6 months ... 8-}2

i question the survival of america and our standards with another administration ...
like the one we've just enjoyed :attention::dig: :shakehead:

I got a big problem with that, too. Can't trust any of them which is why I've never voted. But at least Trump is open about most of his issues. And I don't buy the 'Christians should vote to be a good Christian'. I believe in the totality of the providence of YHWH and that His plans will come about no matter what humans do.

But, yeah, he is childish, petty, etc. etc. I like that he is open about his bad side instead of hiding it at all cost like most politicians. He's no worse than any other politician, and IMO a lot better.

Who wants hilary to be president? Seriously? I live in Oregon and know no one who likes hilary. Where are these polls coming from?! Why would dems want a known liar whose personal assistance has ties to the Muslim brotherhood? The fact she is so high in the polls tells me how corrupt this whole presidency race is.
