But do we LIVE like we've been set free?

Today, reflecting upon the events and impact of Jesus' sacrifice upon the Cross, I'm reminded that Jesus not only died for our freedom from sin and eternal destination - but ALSO from the mental shackles we so often create in our own minds - as our wrongful theological beliefs can keep us in constant psychological bondage.

Here's a good, short article about the above - how, as Christians, we should live our lives per the reality that we have truly been set free, as opposed to being in constant anxiety per mental cages of of our own making. Did Jesus save us, only for us to think as if we are still enslaved???!!!

Nessa: I don't
Ness, what do you mean by that? Because living as free doesn't mean we won't ever sin - not while we remain in the flesh. The question is, do we truly understand that we've been set free?

Your post could be read as those suffering from illmess, anxiety or depression ought to be free from such because Jesus also died to set us free from such. I'm fairly sure isn't what you meant.

No, K, not what I meant. Illness, depression, etc. - things common to man - will always exist in the flesh suit we are all wearing. I thought my linked video explained where I was coming from.

You mean linked article? That gives more the context of living life aware that we've been made free from sin, rather than living life as though we're under its thumb because we still fail.

Words can be easily misunderstood without context. I'm just guessing that Nessa maybe read your post how I initially read it, before reading the good article you linked to which provides better context to your words.

Try re-read your post without the context of your article. Place yourself the shoes of someone who suffers from/has suffered from anxiety, OCD or the like (i.e., myself). Such will read into your words more readily the context of their own life i.e., "mental shackles we so often create in our own minds", "we should live our lives per the reality that we have truly been set free, as opposed to being in constant anxiety per mental cages of of our own making."

There are many Christians who don't understand, and think prayer can help people with such anxieties, depressions, mood disorders or other mental conditions.Even non-Christians, close ones, people in general, when face-to-face with such a person don't really understand why a such person can't just get over it, be normal and move on.

Of course, reading the article it becomes more clear you meant being mentally shackled by sin, feeling caged by sin, guilt-ridden by continually falling short i.e., it's all within the context of sin in our lives. We might feel like we fail God, that sin keeps triumphing over us, and yet in Christ we are made free. And, I fully agree!
