Philip,

Did you say that you named your son Duncan after the character from Highlander?
Yes.
Now I don't feel so bad for naming my son Cliff Clavin.

Just keep an eye on your son. He may say he's ok, but he could be shaken up pretty badly.

My son lost a classmate a few years back in a car accident. When it happened, he seemed like he was ok. But a couple of days later, it hit him pretty hard.

Will do, Rick. May have made a bigger impression on my youngest (14) son, as he goes to middle school with Micah's brothers. It might be the first young person he's known that has died.

Good point. I knew you had a younger son, but hadn't thought of that. 14 is a tough age.

We usually just call him Cliffy, unless his mom gets mad at him. Then she calls him Clifford.

My wife's name is Rosa, named after Rosa Parks. My wife's parents were big time into the civil rights movement. Isn't it ironic that I make Rosa stay in the kitchen?

And I was named after Richard Simmons.

One danger of SSRIs is actually suicide, normally written into the fine print. In some, perhaps many, it removes inhibitions towards caring much, which can make some more prone to violent acts and/or taking their own life.

Neo, the story of that girl is tragic, deeply sad. It is understandable that you ask the question through the lens of your own experience. If I had committed suicide, I wouldn't have wanted my wife being blamed. Reasons can obviously be numerous and complex, or even simple.

Thing about those anti-depressants, is while they can lead to terrible outcomes, for millions they are the only relief available. My Bi-polar friend - he would have to be in a rubber room practically, if there was nothing to stop his mania. He's been suicidal, too. It took years for his docs to find a combination that has stopped the cycle. He'd be okay for about 2 - 3 years, then BOOM another march toward manic madness. Now, he's been good for nearly 7 years. But it came at the expense of changing his outgoing personality - now he's reclusive, overly serious, doesn't call anyone or go out. I shudder to think what the past was like for such people, with no meds at all. But, yeah, they can be a terrible, double-edged sword.

Very sad news.
Prayers for the family and his close friends.
But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.
