Ironically neither are referred to as "nephilim"; that's actually a mark against your view. In fact, Og in Deu 3:11 is called a "giant" using the word rapha':

That is the point.
All of the neighbouring civilizations had stories of "giants" and so forth, of them being "quasi-divine".
Ironically, there are several flood stories throughout the ancient world, but you don't believe it was global, which BTW, is the traditional view...but that doesn't matter in this argument for some reason.

Not really relevant.

These are the clans supposedly descendent of the Nephilim or even called Nephilim in some translations:

the Amorites (Amos 2:9)[2]

Only one of which uses the word nephilim.

And didn't you read the link? No where in there is this word used in the way you claim in that reference.

I do know Heiser has some other kooky theory on this word. The man likes to see it in books it actually doesn't appear in (specifically Ezekiel).

ETA: note I said his theory is kooky. Even though from what I've seen the man likes to play intellectual-sleight-of-hand in order to sell himself to people who look for the spectacular rather than read their bibles.

The guy is even on YouTube telling people that not everything in the Bible is about Jesus when Jesus said everything is about Jesus (John 5:39). But I digress.

The funny part about you hammering on this is that you haven't yet explained how these angel-hybrids somehow escaped God's wrath. You're taking one little word in two verses and trying to justify a doctrine on it, based on presuppositions.

The other interesting thing for me is how those who hold to the angel-hybrid theory ignore the idea of angel hybrids in their eschatology as it relates to "the days of Noah". All of a sudden the warning relates to DNA manipulation via science and not horny angels. It's one more mark against the view imo.

I used to hold to the A-H view because I thought it was cool and mysterious, then I actually looked into it for myself.

Anyways, I'm off for a bit.

The funny part about you hammering on this is that you haven't yet explained how these angel-hybrids somehow escaped God's wrath
.

At least this part, we can agree is interesting.
I assume by God's wrath you mean the flood, yes?

Even in Genesis 6 is states:
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them.

We have here that the Nephilim being around afterwards.

Now, in Genesis 6, we have a lot of interesting things here, not just that the Nephilim came back but that God passed judgment on all EXCEPT Noah and his family.
This is interesting because IF the sons of god meant the Seth lineage, as some claim, then they were either not ALL righteous or almost all of them, except Noah and his family, became wicked.

We can assume that one of two things happened, since we know they existed after the flood.
Some survived ( I don't think so)
The same thing happened again.

The bible does not say.
I don't know.
I have read a few views but the reality is the bible doesn't address this.

Now, how does one explain the explicit statement that there were nephilim AFTER the flood, and giants ( if one doesn't equate the two) when the only surviors were Noah and His family?
Does it mean that Noah's descendants became corrupt?
Yes, of course ( one view states that it was via Ham, who was cursed).

LOL:

Genesis 7:

21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of *every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: 22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. 23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

Stu, at least with you I can have discussion.

As you can see by the various translations, Nephilim can be translated as "giants" or "fallen one" or " to fall".
That the earliest translation, the Septugaint, translated it giants should mean something ( though not everything).
That the giant clans were associated with the nephilim are clear.
The various views as to who the sons of god were simply shows that the passage has some theological and doctrinal baggage that has been added to it ( no such baggage existed prior to the fall of the second temple).
There are theories about why the change came to be ( a quick google can help you read up on that).

Suffice to say that ALL interpretations have issues they have to address.

Might as well jump in here, since I have discussed this elsewhere. :)
PaulSacramento wrote: The only reason the change the meaning of sons of god to something else is to avoid the supernatural element and one should ask themselves WHY they have an issue with the supernatural in the bible.
The term "son of God" or "sons of God" is most often used in Scripture to refer to God's people.

I do happen to like Heiser, so let me quote Heiser
Adam is therefore the son of God (cp. Luke 3:38) — just like Israel will be called the son of God (Exod 4:23) — just like the king of Israel is called the the son of God (Psalm 2:7) — just like Jesus, the messianic king/servant, is the son of God, so that those who believe in him can be called the sons/children of God (John 1:12; Rom 8:14, 19; Gal 3:26; 1 John 3:1-3).
It is actually Heiser's note regarding Luke's reference to Adam as the "son of God" that led me to the conclusion that the "sons of God" mentioned in Genesis 6 are the descendents of Adam who Luke describes as "the son of God".

If you look at Genesis 6:1-4 in that light then this passage becomes additional Scriptural support for the existence of humans outside the line of Adam.
"sons of God" refers to the descendents of the line of Adam
"daughters of men" refers to the indigenous human population

The main presupposition here is that the phrase "sons of God" means the same thing in Genesis 6 that it means elsewhere in Scripture.

The term "son of God" or "sons of God" is most often used in Scripture to refer to God's people.

I do happen to like Heiser, so let me quote Heiser

You are reading the NT and other passages BACK into Genesis, which isn't standard practice.
Not saying you are wrong mind you, but you know what I mean.
Yet, we must address ALL the other passages in which sons of god means divine beings and why here, in its natural reading, it means otherwise.
