Re: Prayer for my dad/me
Ness, my heart breaks for you in this matter. I am praying for your dad. Just trust the Lord, let him handle how things progress. Say what is on your heart to you dad, as you see fit. Rick is right - you don't want to have later regrets. And, you have been given a blessing in that nothing sudden has yet permanently happened, as in, you've been given a brief window to respond as you think appropriate. Oftentimes, people are made more reflective and open when they know they are potentially facing the end. You may find him more open to your overtures than you may have thought.

How are you Nessa?
But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

Re: Prayer for my dad/me
It looks like his prostrate cancer has likely spread to his bones. Blood tests, weight loss, bone pain, sleepiness all indicate this. He should be home by the end of the week hopefully.
He will then be receiving full on palative care at home.
I'm tired.

Nessa,
How are you doing with this. My dad had cancer, and passed away in 2009. I'm a pm away if you need someone to talk with. And please, take it from someone who didn't have the greatest relationship with his father, please say anything that you need to say to your dad, before it's too late.

You know, right or wrong, I feel I have already made my peace with my dad in the form of a letter years ago. He chose not to respond. Just because he is dying I am not going force something. It is what it is. Though I do see him more now that he is dying.
It is the same with God. Kerry has talked to him throughout the years. He is not ignorant of Christianity. I'm not going to force that either. He needs to make a move. His life. His choice.

Re: Prayer for my dad/me
Dad hanging on by a thread.
When we went to visit in hospital, it didnt look like there was a body under the bed sheet. His body is like a broom stick handle even with both legs together... his face sunken
It is a horrific sight.
We held his hands. Kerry spoke about God to him and he just let go of his hand twice. I wonder if he's bitter at God for what has happened to him.
He cant really talk. Just makes noises.
I told him I love him and God loves him.
I stroked his head. I had brought him a possum merino hat to keep him warm. It felt like really it was God putting my hand on his head. Like my hand was stuck there.
Its hard

Ness, you've shown love where it surely is incredibly tough to do so. And if he's lucid, he's now had every chance from the Lord. He's blessed to have you as a daughter. God bless you and keep you strong, in the coming days and months.

Truly sorry to hear about your loss.Nessa wrote:He's dead.
When my dad passed away from ALS it was a very difficult time.
After close to 5 years, the disease had made him a shell of what he was.
There was a mixture of sorrow and relief, of pain and happiness.
I was sad to realise that I would never hear his voice and see him again but happy that his spirit was finally free and that his torment was over.
It doesn't get easier BUT we do learn how to deal with the pain and suffering.
As a Christian there was comfort that his spirit was at rest with Our Lord BUT the pain and emptiness were still there.
I am sorry that your family is going through this and we are here for you to vent, to rail, to scream and to cry.
Whatever you need.

Re: Prayer for my dad/me
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Let us proclaim the mystery of our faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
