Myth This, Myth That, Who's Afraid Of The Big Fat Truth?

Post by Believer »

Well, I have done some research, and it comes to my attention that BlockBuster (nations popular video rental "palace"), other video rental places, stores, and libraries carry all types of media on the "myths" of the Bible. It is amazing how much they carry really. For instance, BlockBuster carries some videos of the "mythology" of the Bible, but then there are horror movies that contain almost 100% satanic content that goes along with satan of the Bible, and the movies take the satanic content seriously as if it should be a whole book just devoted to satan. Then there are movies that portray the non-satanic stuff like angels, spirits, and stuff similar to that, some of which are based on The da Vinci Code. Libraries are chock full of mythology media. So if this is all myth to them, why keep putting out new media every so often? What is their purpose or goal? Santa Claus is portrayed as fact when the Bible is portrayed as straight up myth. Huh? Does anyone study apologetics, theology, history before they put their media out nowadays?

What other things have you noticed that people keep making and putting out based on the "mythology" of the Bible? The common one I suppose is Moses and Noah, I see those two pop up often, but not Adam & Eve? Huh? They even have media on Charles "Devil" Darwin, he should be filed under myth for all his outrageous myths of his theory of evolution! These companies putting this stuff out are mainly Biography, A&E, and Discovery.

What is wrong with the worldwide picture?

Hmm, today, 10/3/05, I decided to go pick up my books from the local library and what did I find? I found a HUGE display from Portland Humanists Organization for ALL to see. Books for all age ranges including children. This is sad that a library would accept this display. Showing off how to "deprogram" the brain of "dangerous" Christian religion. I have never seen a religious display up at the library, this is the first time I have seen a display that is skeptic/atheist in nature. Sure there are skeptic/atheist books available, but never a display until I saw it today. It's amazing what the library and/or organization will do to "deprogram" people from religion. Also, I have seen a dramatic increase in anti-religion stuff in the Portland metro area. More people that think life is but an accident so they do what they want and don't care. AMAZING!!!

Some might be interested to learn that there are mulltiple meanings for the word myth.

meanings numbered 1 - 4 are most common.

1 lie/fiction
2 stories about the gods
3 primitive science
4 etiologies

where as 5-8 reflect the use of the word in academic, comparative perspective.

5 ritual texts
6 concrete universials
7 explanation of belief
8 social charters.
Church tradition tells us that when John, son of Zebadee and brother of James was an old man, his disciples would carry him to church in their arms.
He would simply say, “Little children, love one another”
After a time his disciples wearied at always hearing these same words and asked “Master why do you always say this?
He replied, “it is the Lords command, and if done, it is enough”
