Ok, here's your chance to complain. What are your pet peeves? The things that really get under your skin. I have two that really push my buttons.

1) bad customer service. I can't stand it, and will not tolerate someone I'm paying, that can't treat a customer properly.

2) unsolicited selling. People coming to my house, and trying to sell me something I didn't ask to buy. That includes people selling their religion at my home. Also phone calls that are selling their product, disguised as non-profit, or charities that put proceeds towards the salespeople, not the people who need the money.

Right - here goes

1) Things not doing what they are designed to do especiallly when you paid a lot of money for them.
2) The Anonnmity that the internet provides giving people an excuse to be complete idiots and rude and disrespectful.
3) General rudeness and disrespect.
4) Militant atheists - see point 2


that is my list for starters - there might be more to come - of course I bless them all.

Excellent thread, Rick. I haven't written a good rant for a long time...


So here goes:

Probably the thing that annoys me the most is superficiality. Closely associated with consumerism, and it's especially starting to spread among the younger generations such as mine. More specifically, the most frustrating issues/traits for me are:

1 ) lack of determination and character (which leads young people to do things they don't even want to, just to be recognized by an unidentified social group)

2 ) obsession with alcohol (IMO closely affiliated with denial, as many get drunk to escape the reality they don't have the will to try and change for the better, see point 6)

3 ) obsession with sex (speaks for itself, I believe)

4 ) single-mindedness and prejudices (against people who are different in a way that they use their own brains to think)

5 ) unfounded arrogance and/or disrespect (practiced mostly by wannabe alpha-males)

6 ) indolence (expecting change to fall from the sky instead of working on it)

7 ) impatience (lack of will to put effort into doing something properly, meanwhile expecting unrealistically good results... may also be affiliated with the point 6)

8 ) stories like "life is short" and "live your life to the fullest while it lasts", which only encourages point 7


I would also add the already mentioned:

1) bad customer service.

Rip off prices - like £1.20 for a decent loaf of bread
The fact that Britain has had NO heavyweight politicians for decades
The fact that the Liberal Democrats can share power when they received the minority vote
Britain's immigration policy
Higher taxes for those who happen to earn more, earn being the operative word
Class hatred

Danny, that rings true to me as well. When my wife and I traveled to St. Martin, we stayed on the French side of the Island. I've never been treated more rudely, and spoken to with a more condescending manner, as I was by the French there. My wife's ancestors are primarily French Canadian, and she wanted to disown her ancestors.

Do the French really despise Americans and British? Didn't the Americans and British help save France from becoming "South Germany", in WWII?

I certainly agree with those two - the French - not because I am racist = but because they cheated my home country out of a final place in the rugby world cup (Wales that is). The first one is certainly a worrying thing for our country.

My wife's ancestors are primarily French Canadian, and she wanted to disown her ancestors.

Rick, it's the French political classes who I have a particular disliking for, although the current regime is the exception, and seems to be behaving itself. I've been over to France for England away in the football and it was carnage, with whole neighbourhoods coming out for us. Then again I've met a few top-notch Frenchmen in the past.

Do the French really despise Americans and British? Didn't the Americans and British help save France from becoming "South Germany", in WWII?

This is a can of worms, Rick, and it needs a thread. Personally speaking I think the French have never forgiven Britain for Waterloo. So imagine how they feel about their once conquerors who also became their rescuers? Then when you consider the historical ‘closeness’ of our two nations, and the fact that you too were heavily involved in the rescue, it doesn’t bode too well for America either.

It should be said that, despite their lack of backbone at certain points in history, the French are a very proud nation, and it isn’t easy for such a proud nation as this to (even accept) that we played such a large role in their rescue. And not to forget the French underground who fought like hell against the Germans.

While I'm at it, walking in certain neighbourhoods in London or Paris I see the same dirty shops frequented by the same type of people who seem to not wash or use underarm deodorant. The same type of people who wear pyjamas all day long and speak an incomprehensible language live in both capitals. They seem to like garbage in the streets and their women like to walk around with scarves covering their head. My overall impression is of a dirty third world country that is disorganized and is populated with men - mostly men - who smell bad and pee in the streets and do not shave.

Is there still a border between France and the UK?

Of course it is true. You need to travel a little, Rick! Tampa - or wherever you are - has its bums and Latino thugs but for a really good scare that will challenge your Depends you need to walk back to your car at night in a Muslim neighbourhood in either Englandistan of Francistan.

Actually, FYI, I live nearer to Jacksonville. You were close though. They're only 200 miles apart.
