Strange Bedfellows Supporting Trump

My current analysis of the U.S. presidential candidates:

Very strange the people who ALL want Trump to be the Republican nominee for the next election:

1) The press! Wow, the press, you say. Absolutely! First off, because they love the attention he gives their newspapers, blogs, TV shows, etc. Why? His love of saying outrageous things - things that show a lot of savvy in how they tap into conservative anger - actually, anger across the board - as he's saying things that other politicians won't dare. Now, he's kind of like a very rich, high-school loud mouth, thin on substance of his views, future policies, he has very little to no experience with diplomacy, certainly not about military matters. And, he's not truly a conservative. But he DOES know how to tap into the understandable anger people have about stupid politicians - of both parties. But mostly the press loves him because most of those in media think his shoot from the hip style, his arrogance, his buffoon-like posturing, his total lack of being sensitive in how he talks about people - much less being PC - make him less appealing to voters who are more feelers (as opposed to pure thinkers), meaning that Hillary might well beat him. And because more than a few polls show that Hillary could beat Trump, but not Cruz or Rubio. So, the press loves him. He's outrageous, hilarious, and probably, unelectable. Maybe.

2) Democrats and their party's officials - same deal, because Hillary can likely beat him.

3) Apparently, Republicans who just helped approve this sickening $1.1 trillion dollar spending bill that no one knows squat about what's actually in it, all the goodies slipped in, etc. People who are conservative are livid that the Republicans got nothing in the sack (between their legs). The ONLY thing the Republicans had going for them was to put the brakes on unbalanced budgets, out of control spending, the continuous raising of the debt ceiling. But they let the threats of being blamed for any government shutdown have them running scared (Democrats: "Can't you just hear them, 'Those big Republican meanies, they shut down the government and so my government check is gonna be delayed.'" So, the Republicans caved, but did so without using any willingness to leverage their ability to impact budget and spending, they instead, just rolled over. So, the current Republican leadership has virtually handed Trump the nomination, as people are sick over this spending bill.

But the mainstream Republicans are VERY scared that Trump will be the nominee. He doesn't need them. He certainly doesn't need their money-raising ability. They are also extremely scared that Trump might well run as a third party candidate - meaning, you got it! The First Dude will be Bill Clinton. Which will be scarier than that little girl in "Poltergeist," when she says, "Theeeeere Baaack!"

BTW, I don't like Trump, he's a rich hotdog whose mouth and impulsiveness is likely to cause huge problems. He's no conservative. He lacks the proper experience (as if Barry O had it  ). He's milked and played on both sides of the political aisle. HOWEVER, all of the Republicans are far better than Hillary or Bernie what's his name. Whatever, it's starting to look like Trump vs. Hillary. Funny, Hillary is in so much legal trouble - could she potentially pardon HERSELF?

Either Cruz or Rubio will get the nomination.

One or both will trump Trump.

I'd be delighted to see Trump on the Republican ticket.

"Exhibit A" of my theory!

Rick, how do you see a Trump takedown, by Rubio / Cruz? ESPESCIALLY, as Trump's massive ego will not allow letting the good old boys in the back room make him go away - he'll simply run third party - which equals another President Clinton. :esurprised:  :esurprised:

I just think Trump will dig his own grave.

People are starting to get tired of him.

I hope you are right. Besides, he's already given Saturday Night Live enough comedy skit ideas for the next 25 years!

I don't like Trump -- anyone who has the personal finances to 'buy' the vote -- in other words he's self- financed and has suggested that he doesn't need to have a salary. To me, that's dangerous. And he Is blustery / just don't like him.

You can't just stop raising the debt ceiling. A truck going 60 miles an hour needs 250 ft to come to a complete stop. It won't stop on a dime.

I can't stand Trump, but I'm not sure that being self-financed is so bad, all things considered. With the amount of money getting dumped into elections these days you're either self-financed or you're beholden to the billionaires, multinationals, and special interest groups that secretly fund your campaign through super pac donations. At least a self-financed megalomaniac can make his own decisions without needing to consult with the Koch brothers or some Saudi prince first.

But if money in politics concerns you there's always Bernie Sanders - the only candidate not self-financing or taking super pac money. He's reviled by everyone here for reasons that they don't tend to elaborate on, but I think he's probably the best in the field.

He's a socialist. You seriously don't know why socialism in the U. S. Is bad?
Ed,
Here's an opinion article about why sanders' radical economic ideas would be disastrous for the U.S.http://theweek.com/articles/577266/why- ... us-america
And since I'd never heard of The Week, I made sure it wasn't a conservative site.

He is? Ya know, most people I talk to would vote for him (both parties and outside them), including myself. He'll never get the dem nomination, though. So I'll vote for Trump if he gets it  (for purely anarchist/revolutionist reasons).

First off, no president gets to do whatever he wants. There's a separation of powers built into our government. Sanders would still have to go head to head with the massively gerrymandered Republican House and an extremely pro-business Supreme Court.

Second, no, I don't see how a bit more socialism could possibly be worse than the current corrupt, crony-capitalist mess. Sure, our economy makes lots of new wealth, but the lion's share gets funneled straight to the top.

Third, I don't see socialism as a dirty word, and neither do so-called conservatives. The armed forces are a massive socialist organization, but you'll almost never see a Republican looking to cut that budget. Socialist programs get judged by who they benefit. The Republicans favor the rich so they support the military, which is a perfectly designed system for funneling tax dollars into the hands of the rich with the active support of the poor. The Democrats, on the other hand, get most of their support from regular people. Regular people benefit from having a social safety net, affordable education, good public schools, and the like, so that's where they put their effort. Then there's Social Security, which gets broad bipartisan support simply because the AARP scares politicians nearly as much as the NRA does.

As far as Bernie's ideas go, I think they're mostly good. An increased minimum wage puts more money in the hands of the poor and working classes. That's good for us all because they'll boost the economy by spending it. How anyone could possibly think that a consumer economy could fail to benefit from increased consumption is beyond me. Free or subsidized higher education is another no brainer. When we burden our recent grads with massive debt we cripple their ability join the middle class. That's bad for the economy as a whole. We need those kids buying houses and cars, starting businesses, and spending money, not living in their parents' basements and spending all of their money on repaying student loans. Universal healthcare? Brilliant. Our current system is stupid, broken, and ridiculously expensive. I think that they do it better in Europe and Canada and we could benefit from following their lead.

Like I said, our current economy is disastrous for half of our population. I'm not opposed to a shake-up. I'd love to see some new ideas in Washington. I'd love to see Republicans forced negotiate with a socialist. I'd love to see the whole country dragged away from the right and back toward the center.

I stand corrected. And yeah, you're probably right. The Democratic machine is going to do what it can to torpedo him, just like the Republicans are going to try to weaken Trump. I hope they fail, but it's tough to beat a massive pile of money, especially when it's backed by the corporate media and both political parties.

I don't know. Maybe "Liberal Democrat" would be appropriate for Bernie Sanders. One thing is certain: you guys have no clue about what socialism is. I think you guys use the word as an accusation more than as a description.

:D
