Did God want us to stay stupid and without a conscience?

Why didn't God want Adam & Eve to eat of the Tree of Knowledge so we could eventually evolve into Gods? Why the "Tree of Knowledge"? If it was just a test to see if A&E obeyed God then why not an Apple or a Fig tree? Would we be without sin if we had no knowledge of good or evil and no conscience - like my cat?

we will never evolve into God's.
it was a simple test of obedience that humanity failed and there after became Gods enemies.
bible project says the tree allows us to determine our own morality, which falls short of Gods objective morality.
if we obeyed God perfectly we would be without sin, but no human except Jesus can do that, hence his death on a cross to purchase our salvation and righteousness. only by trusting in jesus can we obtain salvation.
