God and Rap

Post by Seeker »

My question is in regards to God's view on rap music and swearing. I listen to rap music quite often that usually has swearing in it. I was just wondering what the Bible says on it and any of your opinions on the topic. Thankyou.

Well rap music doesnt really have a monopoly on swearing so I think its more of a question of music in general and swearing but even then....

Its not really the words so much as what comes out of the heart. The real question.is - does the music bring you closer to God or further away? Theres alot more to music than swearing to consider..the possible messages of hate or of sleeping around...of seeking.revenge...etc

Though even some christian music is dodgy...maybe it's just safer to hum to yourself ;) :P

Profanity is a sin, period.
Ephesians 4:29
All of James pretty much warns about the sins of the mouth.

Hebrews 12:2-3 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

2nd Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of this glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God,should shine unto them.

Couldn't listen to more than a minute of that. Good God, that's awful.

Listen, I am pretty sure that God hates rap! Actually, IF I were a dictator, I would give stiff prison sentences to most rap "artists" and producers and have most of their music burned! Anyone caught making rap "music" would be forced to listen to a really cheesy version of "Feelings" played excruciatingly loud in their cell, 24/7, one year served for every bad rhyme! y[-(

Seriously, I have heard a song or two that mixed rock with rap that I though was creative and somewhat interesting. But the whole beatbox thing that is devoid of melody, with brain-dead lyrics, all rhythmically no more complex than "thump, thump, thump" - you know, something you can hear from massive car speakers two blocks away - ah, NO! And I say that as someone who loves virtually every genre of music, as long as it is interesting and of quality, creative, melodic, well-performed. I even like some opera, totally dig (mostly old) jazz, classical, rock, progressive, acoustic, Afrikana, blues, reggae, ska, etc., and hybrids (isn't ALL music ultimately a hybrid?) of various genres. I compose and play music myself, largely on guitar and then I can overlay other instruments - a bit of keyboard, drums, bass, and of course virtually anything a synthesizer can produce. Right now I'm trying to master using GarageBand software.

Sincerely,

Let's try it... to the tune of Amazing Grace....

Amazing Grace - Yo

How - how sweat dat Sounds - (wa to Yo bro)

Saved a wretch likes mez (you got dat right)

I'ze a was lost (in the hood Yo Bro on dat mean ol street)

Now I'e been found (lay'n around da hood all day on welfare street and...)

Was blind, but now I see. (da man with da plan fer mez)

’Twas grace - (Yo Bro, God's not Obamzo's phone)

that taught my heart to fear (liven all mean, got dat right yo woo waw bro)

And grace my fears relieved; (heck yes man)

How precious did that grace appear (Lordy Lordy he's came as da man)

The hour I first believed. (Yo Tow Yo Bro)

Through many dangers, toils and snares,I have already come;

(like that night dat ol bad D come after me look/n to take the brothers and me out)

’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, (Big Yo ya got dat right!)

And grace will lead me home.
(Yo wap de Yo bro and sistars - Obamzo demoncrates leads to slavery but Lordy makes all home-ies !)

When we’ve been there ten thousand years, (I aint no more in da Hood)

Bright shining as the sun, (Liven with da Lordy on his north forty)

We’ve no less days to (wrap forth) God’s praise

(Amen you got dat right my sistor and bro's YO!)

Than when we’d first begun

(Yo Yo Yo hmmm dat rapz bro hmmmm)
