God and the round Earth

Post by ultimate777 »

What is evidence? In 1491 was there more evidence that the God we worship was real or the Earth was round?

What is evidence?
According to the wikipedia:
Evidence in its broadest sense includes everything that is used to determine or demonstrate the truth of an assertion.

Aristotle observed "there are stars seen in Egypt and [...] Cyprus which are not seen in the northerly regions.
Aristotle provided physical and observational arguments supporting the idea of a spherical Earth:
1. Every portion of the Earth tends toward the center until by compression and convergence they form a sphere. (De caelo, 297a9–21)
2. Travelers going south see southern constellations rise higher above the horizon; and
3. The shadow of Earth on the Moon during a lunar eclipse is round. (De caelo, 297b31–298a10)

more can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spherical_Earth
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth

and now something about the evidence for God:
http://www.gotquestions.org/Does-God-exist.html

I think that there was more evidence for the Earth to be round than the God we worship was real. Round earth is also supported by Bible.
But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.
-- 1 Thessalonians 5:21

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

No educated person in the 15th century thought the world was flat............ Really that belief went out of popular belief probably in the 3rd century.

I think you are right about this.

Round earth is also supported by Bible.

I think it supports flat Earth at least some.

I knew that. That is one reason why I asked the question.

Where Bible supports the flat earth? In Numbers 15:38, Ezekiel 7:2, Isaiah 11:12, Job 37:3 and in Job 38:13? An interesting reading is http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/edn-c017.html. The Hebrew word 'kanaph' generally means extremity.
