It may be wrong to use weed, but having it illegal is stupid as well. Enforcement costs are huge and illegal drug traffiking people get more profit. It would not be the only mild drug that would be on the market, either.

The reasons drunk driving is illegal because it poses a lethal threat to the public and causes unnecessary vandalism. Also, the self infliction risk is too high to allow a drunk person with skewed judgement to drive. My logic may not have been complete but the example you gave to undermine the logic was an unfair one.

Driving under the influence of THC also decreases your judgement and has been proven to cause accidents hence why it is illegal to take drugs and drive in my counrty.

If we allow access to Marijuana legally, a great deal more people will use it, and we will be causing more problems than we started with. The costs in damages from accidents and health care would far surpass the cost of "keeping it illegal"... enforcement officers are doing little enough even now. Why add another potentially dangerous and perhaps even more harmful drug to the legal market? (Not to mention the costs of buying all those drugs and the mental damage if people were allowed to use it all the time....)

Well, there are a couple of countries where it is legal, like Cambodia (de facto legal), Peru, Mexico... so it should be fairly simple to look up how much they spend on "recovery programs" and such...

It seems right now the US government (source: Google search) is spending about 150 billion dollars (per year) on drug rehabilitation centers, treatment, etc which is quite a lot considering it's illegal.
And if marijuana, etc was legal even more people would perceive it (though according to some people correctly) as harmless, more people would use drugs and more money would be spent on recovery.

^ Not to mention the wasted money on buying all of those drugs...
