What are spiritual gifts? What are YOUR spiritual gifts?

As the topic of spiritual gifts has come up, I thought this would be a good resource to know about.

This page (http://www.lifeway.com/Article/Women-Le ... th-service) offers some wonderful resources to discovering how God may have gifted you, including a Biblical list of the gifts, and a self-discovery questionnaire survey.

While no TEST can perfectly identify a Christian's spiritual gift or gifts, accurately answering certain questions, Scripturally based upon what these gifts actually are, CAN indeed deepen your understanding of how God has wired you and provide clues as to your individual gifts, and of how He might best use you.

Below are a few verses to get you thinking about your spiritual gifts (Paul's basic of the gifts can be found in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11):

Each believer is given at least one gift.
(1 Corinthians 12:7)

The Holy Spirit determines who receives which gifts.
(1 Corinthians 12:11)

Each gift is equally valuable. (1 Corinthians 12:21-26)

We are to use our gifts to serve others for the benefit of the body. (Romans 12:6-8; Ephesians 4:12)

We are commanded to use our gifts. (1 Peter 4:10)

Exercising our gifts will help us develop spiritual maturity. (Ephesians 4:13)

It took me along time as a Christian to understand the gifts of the Spirit. I'm not trying to bash denominations but I was raised in a Baptist church and we were never taught anything about these gifts. It used to frustrate me as a child growing up in church and I'd read the bible and it was'nt long I started realizing they were not teaching all of the bible and I used to ask preachers as a kid, why they did'nt teach or preach all of the bible and I never felt like I got an adequate answer but over time I started researching about the gifts and eventually I learned enough about them to understand them and I just believed in them regardless if Baptists ever preached or taught on them.

But then I started trying Pentecostal church's and this is were I was exposed to these gifts however I became dissapointed because certiangifts like speaking in tongues was being abused and they were not abeying what Paul taught about gifts and specifically speaking in tongues. Paul taught the proper way to use this gift and yet it was ignored for the most part but I thought to myself well atleast I'm exposed to them now unlike when I was in a Baptist church.

I know there is no perfect church but I believe it is still important to go to church and over time I have calmed my tendancy to nit-pick churches expecting them to be perfect.

As far as what gift I have I have always desired the gift of prophecy and this gift seems to fit me the best out of the others.Eventhough I believe speaking in tongues is one of the gifts I have never really desired that gift and have felt that it is the lesser of the other gifts unless it is interpreted which rarely happens. I would rather not even hear somebody speak in tongues if it is not interpreted, however I pay attention if/when it is ever interpreted.
