Nations University

Post by ageofknowledge »

In this time of economic hardship, there are some bright spots. One of them is Nations University. http://www.nationsu.org/site/

Nations University is a distance education college affiliated with the Churches of Christ which offers certificate, associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees in religious studies, and master's degrees in Ministry and Divinity. All courses for new students are offered online at this time. The institution is incorporated in Louisiana but has its offices in Brentwood, Tennessee.

As of July 31, 2008, the school had 3,197 students in 123 countries. 38% were studying via postal correspondence with the remainder using email and the web to complete their studies.

Nations University lacks educational accreditation. The school is, however, authorized by the Board of Regents of Louisiana to grant degrees. According to Nations, holders of bachelor's degrees from the college can enter the graduate program of the College of Bible and Ministry of Lipscomb University despite the unaccredited status of Nations University. In 2009; however, Nations University applied to the Distance Education and Training Council for accreditation and hopes to complete the process by January 2010.

Nations University is NOT a diploma mill. They were created with a vision for offering ministry and theology training at a low cost to students who could not otherwise afford the education with a special eye toward Africa. If you want to study ministry and theology online, this is the lowest cost way to do it. Last I checked, it was $100.00 or so per degree plus books (though most of the courses offer internet resources instead of a textbook for free). Once they finish DETC accreditation, your degree will be transferrable to colleges that accept DETC accreditation. Enjoy.

P.S. You can pay them back, if you like, by offering to volunteer as a country leader helping answer student questions after you graduate.

For business and whatnot you can check out DETC accredited Andrew Jackson University http://www.aju.edu/Admissions/admis_FAQ.asp They have a deal where you pay app fee plus books only but you'll have to ask them about the details and how it works. Peace.

Magic Jack looks cool. I've been reading on the net how to disconnect the phone company's land line at your demarc point (the point at which the phone company landline connects your internal home, apt, or office phone interface [doesn't work with PBX systems though]) and plug in a standard rj11 cord and the other end of that into the magic jack usb device which goes into a computer or for extra power if needed into a usb powered hub and then into your computer. But after you have Magic Jack installed in this way you should be able to have all the incoming and outgoing calls anywhere in the USA for that $40 first year $20.00 every year thereafter price. You'll have to do your own homework to see if this works for you. It may not. Obviously you have to have the computer the MagicJack is plugged into on to make outgoing calls. But it looks like a way to inexpensively power a location's phones for free local and long distance within the USA for that one low price per year. You get voicemail, 411/911, a local area code land line number, it works with outlook, etc...

Feel free to share other ideas to save money in this thread.

My dad uses it. It's fine and is very cheap compared to a monthly phone bill. Like Vonage and others like it, it will ultimately depend on the internet connection. Some people like that, Some don't

As for the university, only thing that sound worrisome is their lack of accreditation. that's usually not a good sign. Most colleges and universities will provide accredited programs.

Of course accreditation is preferred over non-accreditation; however, this university has hired a consultant and is in the process of obtaining it.

But for someone who wants to walk through a Bachelor's or Master's program at an extremely affordable rate (currently $100.00 a year) for the knowledge and understanding; this works nicely.

Graduates of the Bachelor's program are reporting being accepted at Liberty University http://www.liberty.edu/ for their Master's program. Nation's University has been earning a very good reputation with other Christian colleges and as a result students with excellent grades have been accepted.

I'm almost finished with the Master's of Divinity and have learned a great deal over the past couple of years. Information about my Christian faith I never would have got outside a degree program like this. Nations University is a winner and they are aiming to get better.

That's great,

I just have heard some unfortunate stories from colleges such as Pensecola Christian College that aren't accredited. Their graduates can have trouble getting accepted into higher learning institutions or being hired when the company finds out that their degree isn't from an accredited source, that's all. (of course, that's on'y the tip of the iceberg when it comes to problems in that college)

But if they are inthe process, that's a good faith effort on their part.
