Statehood Day

Post by Reactionary »

OK, a little advertisement... In case you didn't know, Croatia today celebrates its Statehood Day. On 25 June 1991, Croatian Parliament declared independence from SFR Yugoslavia, as a result of the earlier referendum in which 93,24% of the citizens who voted, voted for independence.

Although there was a moratorium on the decision (the Independence Day is celebrated on 8 October), this day marked an important step towards fulfilling the centuries-old Croatians' dream of a sovereign homeland.

Rant ended. 8) Živjela Hrvatska!

"For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse." Romans 1:20

If they had a social gospel in the days of the prodigal son, somebody would have given him a bed and a sandwich and he never would have gone home.

I believe most of us are. Some - a vocal minority - think that it's disgraceful and primitive to be a patriot. They like to make fun of war veterans, mock people who wear crosses, compare patriots to Nazis and fascists... Are there such individuals in your country/ies?

I'm not patriotic but have no objection towards those that are. One of the outings I like best is to go to the USA for the 4th of July celebrations when patriotism there is in full swing.

I'm afraid you're mistaken, FL.

Slovakia existed in the 9th century as Great Moravia:

Croatia existed as a kingdom in the 10th century:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of ... edieval%29

And they didn't "cease to exist". At least Croatia didn't - it was a state within the federation of Yugoslavia from 1943 (1945) to 1991.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SR_Croatia

There - for those who complain about "socialism", we had a real one.

Well...I stand corrected! Even so, when I was...um...in the prime of youth, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia were on the map.
