favorite games

Post by zoegirl »

So here's a fun (hopefully) memory for all....

What are some of your favorite games to play? Board games, card games?

Some of mine....

Spoons
Dork (similar to Bridge, Spades, and hearts...there might be other names for it...)
Uno (slam uno!!)

Used to play spud a lot as kids

Other board games: life, scattergories, cranium (lots of fun)....

Any others??

Connect 4 - we have a giant garden set and a standard one
Junior monopoly
Snakes and Ladders
Ludo

I have a six year old daughter, sorry six and three quarters.

I got a Genesis/Megadrive emulator for my old xbox recently and all three of us have been enjoying Sonic the Hedgehog over the past week or so.

although I get the feeling it's not going to see much use over the next six months or so, summer seems to have turned to winter here in the space of two weeks.

I remember playing Airsoft with my dad a few times. He'd always win because my mask was nearly impossible to see through late as it was when we played it. First time though, I nearly shot his eye out because he wasn't wearing goggles like he should have- left a welt about as big as a quarter next to his right eye.

Other than that... well, I've played Chess a few times before, but I'm awful at it. I can never fully predict nor memorise all of the many specific moves all the pieces may make. I prefer Checkers a bit more, personally; it's a bit more strategic, and much more straightforward.

Oh, and if video games count, I play hundreds of them. Especially the Marathon series.

For board games... I'd say Chess, Stratego, a few games that hardcore gamers love that not many other people play (one is Lord of the Rings"). Play quite a bit of catchphrase with the family, quite a few other games. Love a good board game, like too many to mention really. Same with computer games, although some of my favorites are Battlefront 1 and 2, Battle for Middle Earth, old adventure games like King's Quest and Space Quest, Madden, Return of the King, and others.

There was a really cool version of clue....Clue Museum Caper....where one person gets to be the thief and the others are trying to catch him....My brother has it but I've never seen it again.

This is just my inner game theory obsession coming out, but draughts is actually much less strategically demanding than chess. The game tree complexity of draughts is far less than chess, and has been fully solved by computers. As of now there is no computer program able to play a "pefect" game of chess every time. draughts is more straightforward though I'd agree, much more suitable to casual play.

But back to the topic at hand, I enjoy playing

1. Chess
2. Shogi
3. Go
4. Risk
5. Monopoly
6. Spades

And by the way of video games, I'm a big fan of real time strategy games.
