NDEs: What does it mean to be dead?

This article was on Foxnews today - about research showing a brain functions some time after vital signs have ceased. While it sounds like a way to explain away any potential of life after death, it does pose some interesting questions.
And what might it say about God approaching one at the cusp of death (at a point where we would almost certainly consider someone medically deceased), but not afterward?

Hey Philip thanks for the heads up , it’s 3:13 am here in San Diego . I just finished work a while ago . Hope you and everyone else here are doing well

This is the most deceitful article I have ever seen and it completely misrepresents dr Parnias views on consciousness during cardiac arrest .

As you and everyone here knows Philip dr Parnia is the lead researcher of the aware study .

The article says this at the beginning :When you die ‘you know you’re dead because your brain keeps working’, scientist claims

Now let’s take a look at what Parnia said about the brain and conscious awareness during cardiac arrest

https://goop.com/wellness/health/when-i ... -evolving/

What the evidence suggests is that the soul, the self, the psyche, whatever you want to call it, does not become annihilated, even though the brain has shut down. This suggests that part of what makes us who we are—a part that is very real—is not produced by the brain. Instead, the brain is acting like a mediator. Like anything that has been undiscovered, because we can’t touch and feel it, we choose to ignore it. The reality, though, is that human thought exists, we communicate through thoughts—so it is a real phenomena.

The source of consciousness is undiscovered in the same way that electromagnetic waves have been around for millions of years, but it’s only been recently that we created a device to record them and show them to other people.
So in short, we haven’t got the tools yet, or a machine that’s accurate enough to pick up your thoughts and show them to me. In the next couple of decades, I believe it will be discovered that we continue to exist after death, and that consciousness is in fact an independent entity.

And as you know In aware 1 dr Parnia clearly said the patients are experiencing conscious awareness even though the brain is thought of in medical science to have shut down during this period
