They are still held accountable. The devil, or some agent of the devil, tempts everyone.
I see this as an opportunity for the RCC to clean itself. As many people and cultures know, good can come out of bad.

People are accountable for their actions and choices, period.
Unless, of course, they are mentally unable to understand right and wrong and in that case, if they are a danger to themselves and others ( which they would be) they needed to be segregated until that do understand.
Of course some people do NOT believe that people should be held accountable for their actions since they have "no choice" in what they do. Whatever the heck that means.

Is that mentioned anywhere?
Let us proclaim the mystery of our faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

So far, I'm not hearing about accountability being expected. And the pope has been accused of knowing some very terrible crimes without acting on them. I hope this is not true - but if he doesn't fully address that and the crimes themselves, well... And I would expect this same accountability for any church leader of any denomination. Transparency and accountability is very important.
