Why do Jews write God like G-d? Why do they call God Hashem?

Jews write God like G-d because they believe saying or writing His name in that form is blasphemous, that God is too strong of a word.

The Hebrew word 'Ha Shem' simply means 'The Name' ('Ha' is a definite article, and 'Shem' means 'name'). It is a euphemism by which God can be referred to without using His personal name.
