Are violent video games sinful?

I think we can safely say Jesus would probably not play Grand Theft Auto. But are violent (15-18) video games always sinful? I would argue depictions violence are not in themselves sinful, otherwise the Bible would have to be forbidden. I also don't see anything too objectionable in games like Skyrim or Assassins Creed, though feel free to disagree.

What do you think?

I don't think gaming would be Jesus' concern. For that matter, I don't see Jesus playing super Mario bros. either.
I think games are irrelevant when it comes to be sinful.

I think the real question is..

can video games be evil?

People can be evil.

"But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile them."
Matt 15:18

It's not things that make us evil or bad, it is the other way around.

Yes, people can be evil and make evil video games.

We need a game called "JesusVR". You get to walk around preaching and healing people, glorifying God, etc.. But leave out the crucifixion part - way too traumatic.

Leave out the crucifixion? I suppose you want to pretend Jesus didn't die, too?

You mean it's things that make us bad or evil?

I am simply reiterating what the gospel says that it is not that what goes in us that makes us unclean, rather what we make of things within ourselves is what can defile us or in other words make us commit sin.

Look at ... 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Next...

Proverbs 16:17, "The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps his way preserves his soul." NKJV

There is a link to mass killings and violent video games - first person shooter - games and movies.

So you decide...

My joke just failed. You said it's not things that make us evil(1st) or bad(2nd). It's the other way around. The other way around would be bad(1st) or evil(2nd).

Stupid jokes aside, I agree with you:

Lol. I was thinking more of the game rating. My kids would freak out getting nailed to some wood. Perhaps there could be an unlockable expansion pack with beheadings, crucifixions, etc.
