Re: What emphasizes love?

Audie: Mom never once said the words "I love you" to me, and I dont think she ever will.
I don't say it to her. Words are cheap, and its just not our culture to say it.
Audie, what would be your reaction if your mom DID say it, how would you respond?

Re: Why is there a conflict between religion and science?

Yep, with Audie, she is certainly hilariously clever with her put-downs. I wonder does she smile much? She seems the overly serious type. y:-? Re: Do you fear death?

Absolutely concur with Jac on the relational/quality time vs. relentless personal and profession pursuits. As we get older, we realize that we're running out of time, whatever one believes about what comes next. Getting all that stuff, accomplishments, awards/rewards/recognition, envying the Joneses...

Re: Do you fear death?

Ice: Which is why I don't understand why people cry at funerals, especially if they are Christian. Concerning it is a high possibility (if (s)he was a Christian) the dead person is in heaven or is talking to God, I don't get it why would you be sad. For me, there are at least six reasons why I woul...

Re: Tell Me Like I'm 5.

I would agree, at FIVE, this is too young for an unprojected belief - least not one I would have any certainty over. For many children, even 9 or 10 is too young. I totally depends upon the maturity level of the child. My kids grew up having things explained to them in a way they could understand. W...

Re: Tell Me Like I'm 5.

Yes, Ness, God made understanding what He requires of all EXTREMELY simple - it's man that makes it into a complex game and agonizing search. Because if it was nearly so hard as unbelievers on this board commonly insist, next to no one would be saved. One would imagine, if this quest for God were an...

Re: Tell Me Like I'm 5.

Hal: Why do you feel that the only way to God is through Jesus? Because this is what the New Testament redundantly teaches. If one believes what Jesus and His apostles redundantly taught - people, by the way, whom KNEW whether or not Jesus had overcome His death on the cross. " No one who deni...

Re: Tell Me Like I'm 5.

You can't explain Christianity to a 5 year old. You need to wait until the kid is old enough to start asking the questions by itself. That would probably be around 12(actually depends a lot on the environment the kid is raised in). It totally depends upon the individual child. Both of my boys under...

Re: Christians: Would you be pro-gay if you weren't a christian?

Paul: I don't think that any doctrine was ever based up it OR any other SINGLE passage. Correct - perhaps using the term "doctrine" isn't best. None of the questioned passages impact any key doctrinal issue. But as to whether anyone should use one of these questioned passages to make a sp...

Re: My journey

I never thought my faith would be this strong. Just an off the cuff thought, but it seems to me that our minds get filled with so much pointless stuff, so much busyness, electronic distractions, a bazillion interests (in my case), etc., that sometimes our minds just get lost in the competing din. W...

Re: Christians: Would you be pro-gay if you weren't a christian?

Misinterpreting a passage doesn't give a license for rejecting its authenticity. I agree. But that has nothing to do with why the end passage in Mark has long been called into question and also is footnoted with a caution by Bible scholars, in the various Bible versions. Really, if someone wants to...

Re: Christians: Would you be pro-gay if you weren't a christian?

Jac: I also tend to think that the longer ending of Mark is likely original, too. Well, I'm sure quite a few dead Tennessee snake handling church members did, too! Fortunately, for those reading this back and forth, these are some of the tiny few passages that scholars have seriously questi...

Re: Christians: Would you be pro-gay if you weren't a christian?

Jac, of COURSE the doubters of this passage are speculating. As well as those insistent it to be authentic. No one can say with 100% certainty. So, are you suggesting all of the many scholars should be ignored and all of the footnotes should be removed? Is that how we should treat reasonable Scriptu...

Re: What happens to Christians who join Masons?

What happens when a Christian becomes a Mason? He remains a Christian who happens to be a Mason. Hopefully, he will have his eyes opened to problems inherit within Masonry. But a Christian cannot lose his salvation. Many, if not most, Christians have some false theological understandings or wrong be...

Re: Christians: Would you be pro-gay if you weren't a christian?

Jac, I don't have a dog in the scholarly debate over the Adulteri passage. Your SPECULATION has a reasonable premise. But, again, because there are reasonable doubts about it, and as it is unnecessary to use this passage to buttress a theological point - given the great wealth of many other passages...
