Re: Being saved from what? For what?

Until then, Hell wil always be some distorted torture chamber in his mind. And is that not what the Bible teaches? " He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the Holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up forever and ever &q...

Re: Being saved from what? For what?

Seems like a bit of a contradiction mixing "eternal fire" with "outer darkness". There is only one instance, I think, where the afterlife is described as "outer darkness" (in the Gospel of Matthew) and I would argue that it does not refer to Hell. On the other hand, it...

Re: Questions about slavery in the Bible

I The verse that I see is Exodus 21:20-21. The translation I have at hand (looking at the original language is always good to clear up any possible misunderstandings) says, "When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod, and the slave dies under his abuse, the owner must be punished. ...

Re: Questions about a former apologist turned atheist...

Smiley, sure, everyone can have feelings about their faith. But you are dismissing the work of the Holy Spirit. I'm not saying that He is a feeling that can be explained, because I don't see how it could be done. Yet, it could very easily get to the point where a person, in order to feel that they ...

Re: Being saved from what? For what?

Don't get fooled by this "separation from God" flowery language. In the words of Ray Bradley, they make it sound like God is sending sinners to Hawaii. No, it's a place where you are tormented day and night for the whole eternity. Of course, they will tell you that these descriptions are &...

Re: Questions about slavery in the Bible

I remember reading that it is OKAY to beat a slave aslong as he does not die within two days, is it in anyway possible to justify this? I haven't seen any solid responses to this. Kris, Did you know that many of these slaves could quit when they wanted? The law plainly states that Hebrew slaves wer...

Re: Questions about a former apologist turned atheist...

Yes, I feel it is perfectly justified. I've felt doing the same many times for similar reasons. There are people who come to call themselves Christians, but they don't seem to have a real inner foundation in their faith. I have read of some people like this, that have an experience with God (an inne...

unless instructed by God to do so. I never said anything about taking lives, taking lives is almost always unacceptable and i would not listen to god if he told me to murder someone in cold blood. Yep i would rebel if i was told to kill another human being without a good reason. y@};- And then zapp...

Re: Why Create?

I am pretty sure the answer isn't given anywhere in the Bible. Theologians tend to appeal to some extremely vague and ambiguous passages to answer the question. For example, the author of gotquestions.org cites: Revelation 4:11 “ You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power...

Re: Original Sin / Sinners by Birth or Not

OT God routinely punished the descendants of those who actually commit the crime. So - in the Bible, it is possible to inherit sin. Or, at least, to receive the punishment for your fathers' sins.

Re: Vegetarian dinosaurs?

I'm normally a strong advocate of the Day-age theory, however, a professor recently brought this verse(Genesis 1:30) to my attention: "'And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I g...

Gman wrote:Being gay is a sin.. No doubt about it.
I don't think the Bible says anything of that sort. It says that engaging in homosexual activites is a sin.

Re: Children of God are Born Again with Eternal Life

Defining belief and faith would be a good start. Your error is assuming that going to church, praying, or any action of man constitutes actual belief. And that those actions play a role in salvation. Actually, I precisely don't think these things constitute belief. But that is what the Lordship def...

Re: Children of God are Born Again with Eternal Life

Please site your references and make sure they say what you say they say. Don't just say that Jesus said something unless you can prove it. Luke 8:13 They believed for "a while". Thus, they had faith at one point and lost it. Your claims of real life examples is purely anecdotal. You do n...

Re: Children of God are Born Again with Eternal Life

So therefore, truthman, you think it is impossible to lose "true faith"? Too bad Jesus Himself says otherwise. And too bad there are numerous real-life examples of dedicated Christians losing their faith (e.g. Bart Ehrman). As Byblos has said, there are really only two options: 1) Drop the...
