Ethics on killing?

What does the Bible say about killing? I would guess from the start that murder(my definition of murder is killing without good cause) is wrong. But what about killing in war, or killing to protect another? Mercy killing(assisted suicide, etc)? Self defense? What is everybody's opinion?

Re: Christian Views

Hi. Being an Atheist myself, I've always wanted to know Christian viewpoints first hand, as I know very few religious people here, and I've only ever been able to get Christian viewpoints from web sites and general opinion. What is your opinion on homosexual marriage? Abortion? Stem Cell Research? ...

"We who design and create require a creator, but our creator does not? Why not? "

Because of His nature. Not all things have a beginning, because if they did, nothing would be around!

both me and my friend are open minded and "seasoned Christians". We disagree on a lot of things, but they are usually trivial issues, like this one. Thanks for that Romans verse, I shall show it to him.

what about the eating swine part? it kinda worries me, since my sabbatherian friend has been trying to get me to stop eating pork(not that i do it too often, but i like the occasional pepperoni pizza). I assumed it was referring to the fact that those which are damned will be eating pork(which could...

One has to ask himself if the turn the other cheek quote actually represents all kinds of attack. I believe Jesus actually meant not to retaliate to petty attack that do not really cause you any harm. If you are the leader of a nation, and the enemy seeks to destroy those you have sworn to protect, ...

Some verses I would like your opinion on...

Isa 66:17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD. Isa 66:18 For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all...

"And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God" (Luke 18:27). I think that pretty much states God can do anything man cannot. For that verse you cited, I think I shall grab my own Bible(which is probably older than I am), and see what the translation is. Altho...

By "Order" I simply meant logical order which is what I believe you originally intended by this term. God is logical, therefore logic is an eternal property of God. Try this one: 1) If God can do illogical and logical feats, then God who is eternal by nature can cease to exist. 2) If God ...

I got K's point just fine. I think you do not understand my point. For example: "So, look at the logic: 1) God is sinless 2) If God sinned, He wouldn't be sinless 3) Therefore, God cannot sin. " I agree with the first two points, but disagree with the third. "3) Therefore. God DOES NO...

Remember, things make sense to us because these things were made to make sense in this Universe. It is known as Order. Sorry, I glimmed over this part. I tend to believe that order, such as the laws of logic (e.g., the law of non-contradiction), is something that always applies. Such laws were not ...

I'm afraid I have to disagree. Most explanations people bring up is that God cannot do the impossible because of what omnipotency means etc etc. Anyway, here is my answer: If God is Allmighty, then he can make a rock that He can lift and not lift at the same time. Sound impossible? If He truly can d...

The rock question...

I'm just curious, what do you guys usually say to one who asks you this:

"If God is all poweful, can He make a rock so heavy that he cannot lift?"

I have my own special answer, I just want to know what other people have to say.

Didn't Jesus fulfill the old laws? Which, if I understand correctly, means the old testament does not necessarily apply to us.
