Regarding correspondence truth we cross-reference it against perceived reality. This is why I am certain I cannot float in air. But that assumes that we answer all questions in the same way. And how do we know what reality is? No I was referring specifically to correspondence truth, which relates t...

Kurieuo wrote:I have a lack of conviction regarding the no god claim, so maybe that also isn't a knowledge claim? ;)

That's correct - you would not be making a knowledge claim. You are merely stating you are unconvinced by claims there definitely is no god.

August wrote:Is atheism not an absolutist ideology too?
No. "I am an atheist" is a statement of lack of conviction regarding the god claims of others, not a knowledge claim.

A man who believes in nothing then? But that can't be true, such a statement is utterly nonsensical. So, what other than an absolutist foundation can you use to scrutinize everyone else? Or is your platform relativistic, in which case, you've lost the ability to scrutinize. I do not believe in noth...

How do we know that the questions we ask will lead us to the truth, since we have to assume something to be true in order to ask questions? Regarding correspondence truth we cross-reference it against perceived reality. This is why I am certain I cannot float in air. And how do we know that the que...

I find Christianity, like all absolutist ideologies, crumbles under scrutiny, so no it is not truth.

Are you saying that you don't understand me, or that you don't understand good and evil I would have thought that good entails doing right and evil entails doing wrong. I do not see how they are separable in the context of this story. it illustrates that one mustn't fully comprehend good and evil t...

If we should question everything, does it mean there is no truth? Truth is that which survives intensive questioning. For example, "correspondence truth" is that which when you stop believing it, it doesn't go away. If believe it is true that I can float in air without aid, I will discove...

I would love to know how we store our memories, and how our sense of self is preserved throughout this process. Or perhaps it isn't. Perhaps this is part of the process by which our memories and characters change over the years. Our memories are like RAM not ROM. They change and then disappear when...

So why should we accept it as truth then? Why should we believe that your statement applies to everyone then? You've undone yourself-now you're saying it's relative again, and that your statement isn't truth anyway! It was an invitation to be reflective, not a dogmatic statement. Quote: Why should ...

Life is at the interface between object and process. The ideas in our minds of atoms and molecules are cultural constructs that arise from conscious life, and not vice versa. So, your statement is the result of the culture you live in, or are you saying you are transcending your culture? The former...

One in particular I came across, which Fortigurn could perhaps comment on, is the Christadelphian belief that Jesus' nature was actually sinful? If that is the case I'd say no. Although I am an atheist I consider a Christian as needing to believe the Christ was god born as man (so JWs are not Chris...

No I was just trying to say that the knowledge of good and evil wouldn't have been important. They knew the were not supposed to eat of that tree because God told them not to. Understanding good and evil wouldn't have made eating of the tree right or wrong. God's command is what made it wrong. Ah.....

Another important point to consider is If Adam and Eve had the knowledge of good and evil they wouldn't have known it was wrong to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil unless God told them not to eat of it. I agree they didn't know about good and evil, but they still did evil...
