Re: New hybrid shark found

It's not really the type of evolution typically debated over...It's not natural selection technically. But it is extremely uncommon to find two completely separate species that can mate and produce a fully fertile offspring. Most of the time, even if two species interbreed, the offspring is either i...

Re: New hybrid shark found

Indeed microevolution in this case...but the point of macroevolution is that with enough of these adaptations and changes a population can become completely different than its ancestors...Honestly, it would be nearly impossible to expect macroevolution to occur in one step, and evolution does not sa...

Re: So maybe Eden really was in Africa.

Scientific and anthropological evidence heavily backs the idea that homo sapiens first came from Africa...so I guess if you want to literally accept that part of Genesis, then it seems reasonable to assume Africa is where God put humans. Of course, I think almost all of the Book of Genesis, if true,...

Re: My Dad's Argument and My Sister's Stress?

Irreducible complexity is a dead argument, Stu...It doesn't work as a scientific argument. It's been tried for a long time by saying "Even simple constructs are too complex to have arisen in a step by step process." But, one of the most commonly used examples of this argument, the flagella...

Re: My Dad's Argument and My Sister's Stress?

Though, I do sympathize with the guy to some degree...if he honestly got fired for that then the company is just ridiculous and deserves to get sued for it. But usually in these cases there's something else behind it, so idk, I'll try not to judge the company until the verdict comes out.

Re: My Dad's Argument and My Sister's Stress?

Well, I'm sorry to those offended by this, but when you take a symbol from the Bible to that level, it's just superstition. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think I remember the Bible saying that being in the vicinity of the number 666 damns you eternally, nor does naming a comet Wormwood bring the apoc...

Re: My Dad's Argument and My Sister's Stress?

Yeah, I disagree that believing in evolution means that you think everyone is programmed to be homosexual...Could you explain the logic behind that? As far as your sister, I guess I never really understand the big deal behind the end of the world and so on...I mean, why waste your time fretting abou...

Re: Bill Maher and Tim Tebow

Can't say I know too much about Maher himself, but he sounds a bit extreme...I generally don't read into things like this too much. Without any background info, I just read his tweet as someone saying something dumb and insensitive, but probably harmless enough. I mean, it's just a tweet. I don't kn...

Re: Why do many christians not like homosexuals?

Daniel, I understand that you should stand up for what you believe in when your rights and beliefs are interfered with/infringed upon. But no one says you have to partake in homosexual encounters. The Bible also says not to judge others even if they commit sin, because all sins are equal and we all ...

Re: Why do many christians not like homosexuals?

Bad wording there...though some people have told me that they believe God hates gay people (sadly), the more likely/common perspective would be God hating/looking down upon the act of homosexual sexual activity. Thanks for the clarification.

Re: What makes the bible any different than other old storie

I see your point, but when you discuss the absolute origins or logic you run into the problem of "can I actually and logically come up with the origin of logic without using logic?" Even using religion requires some degree of logic, so the discussion inevitably just runs into philosophy, w...

Re: 180 Movie review/discussion

I can appreciate that view, Canuckster. I'm not knocking the whole pro-life side here, just how Ray Comfort uses the Holocaust as a bad analogy with no purpose but to emotionally link the holocaust and abortion. I'm only arguing that this particular method is both deceitful and distracting from the ...

Re: 180 Movie review/discussion

This isn't a documentary on the holocaust. This is using the holocaust as a method of invoking emotional responses from someone while talking about something else. It's keen from the perspective of influencing the viewers emotions to get the response you want, but it's not necessary or relevant. The...

Re: 180 Movie review/discussion

Not that I know of, no. My point about the pictures was that in the documentary I only see them as a method of distracting the viewer or making a purely emotional appeal as a filler for a non-argument.

Re: What makes the bible any different than other old storie

But my feeling is that some higher power still doesn't need to be involved. Evolution says our nervous system and senses developed and synced with our brains (and by "us" I mean our distant ancestors). If the brain developed with all the capabilities it has now, then no God needs to be inv...
