It doesn't matter if you believe you are saved . . . it matters if you ARE saved. And how do you know if you are saved? Only if you have believed the Gospel. Clearly, the ones who believe they are saved are the ones who thought they earned it of their own accord. I agree with your quoted statement ...

this sentence concerns me: " I feel that the break between the two is in your not accepting that underlying their concept of perserverance is a deeper understanding and trust that only the finished work of Christ saves." An atheist can affirm that, in the Christian system of thought, only...

Do you trust Jesus as the Way, Truth, and Life, and that His sacrifice on the cross has redeemed you of your sin, and therefore your eternity with God is secured? Now, of chief importance to me is this idea of "secured," but I suppose we can handle that as necessary. But, if a person beli...

It's been said that the unification of seperate particle theories would be a revolutionary step forward for science and that this "Theory of Everything" would be able to account for our entire universe in a single construct. As it stands, gravitional particles (gravitons) are not currently...

I can honestly say right here and right now that I do have 100% assurance of my salvation. I understand. I should have said "no objective assurance" rather than "no real assurance" in my response. I feel that real assurance can definately come through one's relationship with Jes...

Yeah I did bizzt. I referenced it (or reposted it) in the thread where I was discussing Jesus with a Scientologist also. Was like 3 Q's I think... But getting it down to 1 legitimate question will be worthwhile I think; not only for this discussion but also for life in general.

For your assurance points I completely agree about having assurance for ourselves. I think the resulting lack of assurance for anyone around us shows that you are taking it too far though... I agree that lack of good works does not prove the absense of salvation, but do you agree that the presence o...

I am very surprised that Jac said he does agree with all of it as well (including the mystery part). The reason for my surprise is that we all know by now that Jac advocates total, irrevocable and absolute assurance of salvation. The problem with introducing 'mystery' to it is that salvation a la J...

The saving message is that salvation comes by trusting Jesus Christ for it, apart from anything we say or do. And by "salvation," we mean everlasting life, or complete and irrovocable reconciliation with God. Right, the believing saves and the actions are irrelevant. Thus, maintaining goo...

In contrast, Calvinism/Arminianism/Catholicism argue that salvation is by continued faith, or faith plus works, or faith plus repentence, or whatever. I'm going to play devil's advocate here, and say that most of those people would disagree with this statement. They do not see their salvation as fa...

If salvation however hinges upon perfect understanding of all the mechanics and nuances, then aren't we possibly all sunk? If that is true then where do we draw the line? Is our faith in Christ or in our understanding of soteriology as a concept? Would such an understanding of salvation not in itse...

Hmm... In my experience, which I verified with others in my extended family, 2 years is pretty safe as long as it never defrosts. After that you can get a little bit of freezer burn but if you cut a little bit away it's still edible. Obviously that's a pain though...

I can't see how it is obsurd to say that we receive salvation by believing, when so many verses say just that. John 3:16 obviously. Acts 16:29-31 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be sav...

Re: Put aside your american pride

If anyone expected things will be settled in a matter of months, even a few years, they are sadly and evidently mistaken. As to the future of Afghanistan and Iraq, I have no doubt that they are already better off and will be a thousand times better off than they were before. Democracy takes time an...
