Re: President 2012

I'm calling it now: Obama wins. He's going to take Ohio, which Romney needs, and he's going to just barely take Florida too. It's going to be a lot closer than 2008, though.

Re: HELLoween... stupid!!!

Zacchaeus, you seem to be rather routinely conflating paganism with satanism. If Halloween had pagan origins, then it is not a holiday set aside for the "worship of Satan" because Satan is not the deity of most pagan religions. I doubt that many people worship Satan anyway.

Re: College help...

I don't know about the money stuff, but the general education courses that you'll need will vary from university to university. Some universities (like mine) won't accept anything from a community college either, and others will have requirements that can only be met by specific programs. Do you kno...

Re: Prayer for USA residents in the path of Hurricane Sandy

My department head's parents live on the coast, and they're having a rough time of it. I'm keeping everyone in my prayers.

Re: President 2012

Here's what I got:

93% Jill Stein

78% Barack Obama

70% Rocky Anderson

27% Mitt Romney

No way am I voting for the Green Party, though. Obama it is, I guess.

Re: HELLoween... stupid!!!

Personally, I like Halloween, but I understand that some don't. What I don't understand is that many of the people I know that don't like Halloween seem to object primarily to its pagan origins. I mean, when children dress up and go door to door to get candy, I doubt they are thinking "This is ...

Re: "Sexism In the Bible" Article

Argh! We keep responding to quickly. I promised to stop, but by the time I had finished, you had posted again so I feel obliged to comment. On the subject of property, listing women along with cattle doesn't mean that women are like cattle. It is common when discussing battles to give numbers of eve...

Re: "Sexism In the Bible" Article

I'm afraid you are wrong. The Bible most certainly does say that a male is worth more than a female. Lev.27:1-7 And the LORD spake unto Moses , saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When a man shall make a singular vow, the persons shall be for the LORD by thy estimation. An...

Re: "Sexism In the Bible" Article

Alright, I've looked over more of your article, and I must say, I think you are at fair at times, and occasionally simply mistaken. As an example, you rightfully note that Lot and the Levite who offer women up to be raped are bad, but God doesn't condone this. Saying that the NT uses Lot as an examp...

Re: "Sexism In the Bible" Article

The only thing I want to say right now is that I don't think it's fair to say that men can't understand the situation of women. The fact that there are several men here defending the Bible against accusations from a woman doesn't demonstrate anything. In fact, the sources from the article I linked ...

Re: "Sexism In the Bible" Article

Just very briefly, I'd like to add that in the infamous "man rapes a woman and she has to marry him" section, it is, technically, a translation choice to render the verb "rapes". Technically, the word only means "to lay with" so it isn't necessarily true that there wasn...

Butterfly, I don't want to fight, and I don't have much time, but over the course of a while I'd like to not a few things about your article. For now, I'd just like to draw attention to the quote from Exodus near the beginning about coveting which includes a man's wife as property. You have to under...

Re: Morality Without God?

Columbo: "Just one more thing." So your concept of "perfect rationality" includes doing idiotic things for vain glory leading to death? That explains a lot about why I don't understand your posts. We apparently have very different concepts of "perfect rationality." Seri...
