Re: John Wesley's theology

If you apply your meaning of the word "world" in Rom 12:2 it becomes absolutely pointless and ridiculous Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasin...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Maybe I'll try to expound on my thoughts on emotionalism later when I have more time. And I don't believe that Calvinists are being targeted out of maliciousness or just because they're Calvinists. What I'm saying is- If not Calvinism, then what ? To me that question hasn't been answered, not even ...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Rick and B.W., This is why we need to stick with word words actually mean. We cannot simply redefine words to mean whatever we want them to mean in order to satisfy our own theological boxes (and we all have them). What you have both described is, by definition, not predestination. It is ratificatio...

Re: John Wesley's theology

jlay, You don't have to answer anything. That is your perogative. But calling it a "loaded" question is a copout, unless you can demonstrate how it is loaded. I chose the Beast for a reason, since most people here still regard him as a future person (there are many other examples in Scrip...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Let me ask you, since I can't get a straight answer from jlay. Can the beast of Revelation be saved, or he is predestined to hell? If the former, is the prophecy in Revelation false? If the latter, is God being partial? The question is for anyone who denies that God predestines men to Hell to tackl...

A Quick Primer on charges of being illogical

Intro When discussions take place between worldviews, and sometimes within worldviews, charges of being "illogical" or "irrational", or "contradictory" are often tossed about without any real effort to prove those charges. This is often done in discussions about miracl...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Certainly, I'm not trying to establish what Rick believes. I'll let him speak for himself, and can only debate what he says he believes. But if he holds that any points of Arminianism (as defined by the Arminians at the Remonstrance) aren't true, then he is, by definition, not an Arminian. He may we...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Is that solely how those calling themselves Arminians present their positions PL? Why should we accept your definition and narrowing of scope as definitive in that regard and not how those themselves holding to Arminianism represent it? Like I said, once we start redefining terms, we have more conf...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Rick, Here are the 5 points presented by the Remonstrance at the Synod of Ddort. Note well #5: 1.) election (and condemnation on the day of judgment) was conditioned by the rational faith or nonfaith of man; 2.) the Atonement, while qualitatively adequate for all men, was efficacious only for the ma...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Instead of attacking my debating skills, why don't you or Danny address this: Is a belief in the god of Calvinism, who has righteous hate of certain people, used by someone, holding to Calvinism, to justify hate that the person has for someone who has terribly hurt him? Perhaps, someone who abused ...

Re: John Wesley's theology

B.W., I have addressed these issues, but since there are so many posts here, I will do so again. I defined free will in my post on the top of page 9 of this thread. 2-Free Will: The freedom to choose, We are always free to choose what we want. We are not, however, free to change our own natures, and...

Re: John Wesley's theology

WHERE does Christ say that no man can come to Him? John 14:6:Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. No man can come to the Father, except through Christ. The efficacious work of Christ, is what enables men to come to the Father. ...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Sorry jlay, a "loaded question" is a logical fallacy where the answer to one question is presupposed before asking th other, ie. "Have you stopped beating your wife?" It is loaded because it assumes that the answer to "Have you ever beat your wife?" is "yes", ...
