Re: Reading the Bible

Using parallel versions seems to work pretty good to help me understand. I settled on NIV-ESV using NIV for smoother reading with ESV to cross check. Sometimes out of curiosity or to seek further clarification, I'll bring up NASB then others. Finding out about the Mounce Greek Interlinear was a real...

The VSS must be at it again.
I thought it rather curious. y/:]

Re: Kiwi Cult or Christian Community?

The interview with the emerging cult leader could be used as learning material for police investigators. The behaviors he exhibited would make great examples of deception to learn from. All con artists have common traits and this guy is no different except for his compound. Its interesting how so ma...

Re: Martin Luther, Ascetic to Rogue

I'm convinced the Reformation needed a guy with Luther's personality to fire it up and get it moving. Combative, confrontational, bold, extroverted, boisterous, energetic, vocal and charismatic are a few adjectives I associate with Luther. At times probably overly extroverted and quick to opine but ...

*my wife is only 115 lbs soaking wet. She's no cow.
You meant this as a compliment, yes?? ;)

I've never used that description on my wife. If I did I can predict an eyeroll and no comment....because she's used to me after 33 years.

Re: WHO ARE THE LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL?

I've vaguely heard about the "lost tribes" of Israel but never gave any thought. It certainly appears that James did not think they were lost. Let's say for instance that James didn't know the exact geographic location for each group. His writing shows he knows they around out within lette...

Re: Just....meh!

Just this past week I was thinking I hit a plateau after being on fairly fast learning curve for a year. So I started searching around for new sources of information and inspiration. Came across a ton of short learning videos by Ryan Reeves on YouTube, some which cover stuff or people I didn't know....

Re: Scale of Noah's Flood: Rich Deem

I don't have a strong position on this topic but have been learning from the discussions on this forum.

Genesis has been problematic and perplexing for me and these discussions are helpful even if the posters don't agree amongst themselves.

Re: Reading the Bible

Different interpretations would depend on the "filters" the readers are using. Filters like knowledge of original languages or cultures or practices, etc. Seems the mindset and attitude of people have just as much to do with "alternate readings" at times as level of knowledge. Ma...

Re: God's Precision in the Universe/Measures of Starlight Time

This topic dovetails into a little theory of mine. The gist of the theory is that as we are getting closer to End Time that God has been revealing more and more details of Creation via advances in technology.

Jesus turned it into a symbol of hope and victory and salvation.

It is so amazing how God takes the least and turns it into the greatest, the worst and turns it to the best.

Re: The symbol of the cross vs the symbol of the ankh

Well only the craziest most fringe people who happen to have a PHD (they usually don't) entertain these comparative religion theories. It's ridiculous. the ankh has nothing to do with Christianity and the cross has nothing to with Ancient Egypt, seeing as Ancient Egypt did not have crucification at...

Re: Jewish Roots Movement

Seems to me that people resort to legalism because it gives them a feeling of "doing something". But it takes away their focus of spiritual, heart-felt relationship with God and replaces it with works. Messianic Jew, Joseph Shulam makes it pretty clear that Jews don't like the posers. If y...

Re: God's Precision in the Universe/Measures of Starlight Time

I know a few scientists at NASA were already convinced of Divine order in the universe back in the Apollo program era. The movement of the heavenly bodies was so precise they were convinced this is not random. So their conclusion was God was controlling the universe. To me its mind boggling how NASA...
