Re: Discussion about Peter the Roman "the final Pope"
Some say Pope Francis can still fit the "Peter the Roman" motto. These mottos were descriptions of popes, not their birth or papal name. The "Peter" part may be referring to the fact he named himself after Francis of Assisi, whose birth name was Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone. Also, Pope Francis i...

Re: What’s the worst that could happen?
God's apparent "invisibility" and requirement for faith could be viewed as a screening device . Many people only want what God can do for them, treating Him as a vending machine. I'm not sure if this is a good analogy, but someone who has just won a powerball lottery of hundreds of millions of dolla...

Re: 1 Peter 4:7 Makes More Sense With OEC
To me "at hand" did seem to mean "around the corner". The reason I say we should always be watchful and ready isn't because of what Peter said, but because Jesus said to. This is true whether it is today or thousands of years from today, because we have no idea when.

Re: 1 Peter 4:7 Makes More Sense With OEC
Pete,
I know they don't refer to the age of the earth, but the phrase "at hand" makes more sense from an OEC view than YEC. Two thousand years is a big chunk of time if the earth were young.

I like that article and have read others about the genealogies.

1 Peter 4:7 Makes More Sense With OEC
When I held a young earth perspective, this verse made no sense to me. People tried to explain that 2,000 years is "at hand" for God using Psalm 90:4 and 2 Peter 3:8, but that didn't help at all. It is true that time is different to God than to humans. However, the Bible was written for us , not God...

Personally, I like to think He did, because I like long hair.

Re: My Reason (OEC)
I believe the Genesis genealogies probably contain gaps and that "day" can mean long periods of time. Could the one in Luke 3:23-38 also contain gaps? I ask about Luke because it is the one that goes all the way from Jesus back to Adam. When you say some YECs believe in 10,000 or more years, are you...

My Reason (OEC)
I started warming up to an old earth belief after realizing that we exceeded the Creation Week Model for Human History, meaning God was supposedly limiting human history to 6,000 years plus 1,000 years for the Millennium, but we have already passed the "Year 6000" without the Second Coming even usin...

A good article, but when someone is not interested, Matthew 7:6 & 10:14 come to mind.

Re: Please Introduce Yourself Here
Hi Everyone, I'm Gilligan. I have been interested in OEC for a while now. Glad to be here. NOTE: If I go offline suddenly, it is because I use a public computer at a library (because I don't have one at home) and I'm only allowed two one-hour sessions daily, and my time ran out for the day. If I don...
