How did you come to believe in miracles?
This is an offshoot of another thread I made a short while ago, Is it necessary to accept that Jesus performed "miracles" to be Christian? (figured it'd be easier to just make another thread than try to redirect the discussion). I guess I have a lot to learn about Christianity because I wa...

Re: In defense of objective morals
Again; if you were raised to believe the enslaved race is inferior to your race, to mistreat them would be akin to mistreating your dog. I don't agree, but it is enough for me to see why someone would believe objective morality is necessary to prevent things such as slavery in light of my argument....

Re: Is it necessary to accept that Jesus performed "miracles" to be Christian?
plouiswork: Jesus's resurrection does strike me as a miracle in most senses of the word, :swhat: where does it miss ? what is "a miracle" in most senses of the word ? ... example? It has to do with the relationship between the physical and the spiritual, where a miracle intervenes on phys...

Is it necessary to accept that Jesus performed "miracles" to be Christian?
I think my question needs a bit of explanation, especially as I've put 'miracles' in quotes. I am aware, through a bit of browsing here, that many will disagree on what does or doesn't constitute a miracle. I'd rather not get too much into that unless one feels it's absolutely necessary. My view at ...

Catholicism and good works
I am curious, both from Catholics and nonCatholics, what the attitudes regarding good works is. (I didn't see a thread with these words in the title, so excuse me if this has been discussed elsewhere.) I have limited knowledge about differences among denominations so far, but it sounds like this is ...

Re: In defense of objective morals
I'll start by saying that I don't have an investment in maintaining moral relativity. I'll also say the argument as-is may prove effective in convincing nonbelievers. However, from my understanding it seems like there's an important step being missed here. Of course, everyone thinks that slavery rea...

Re: There Is No Hell!
It's been quite interesting to me, reading this thread, that nonexperience can be seen as too good or too bad a fate depending on who you ask. I wonder if perhaps there's a subtle, but important, distinction between peace (RIP) and annihilation. One perhaps by whether the soul is or isn't destroyed....

Re: A question for atheists
This counterargument so far is a bit confusing. It sounds like the "you" in this question is being assumed to be plural by the answerers but singular by the questioner. It's trivially true that theism would still exist if others didn't have this knowledge, yet equally trivial that it would...
