Just another reference on the Spalding debate. This from a former Mormon, but not angry or vengeful

The irony is that I have no huge interest either. I understood HIs thread to concern evidence for mormonism. Since that included his statement about the existence of horses, I thought it was free game. I was perfectly happy with broadening the topic...but my problems are still there with the sources.

Love to read everybody's posting...what an amazing "cloud of witnesses". My sympathies to you Andyredeemed for your loss of your child. Also agree with YLTYLT with the missing option...kind of leading, isn't it? I would be "never seriously considered". There have been time where,...

No, I agree with you in principle and have no problems with the cladistics; however.... this really wasn't my point. Ultimatley cladistics say that we evolved from a common ancestor with chimps, BUT HOW we evolved from this common ancestor is what I feel is the issue. When it comes to supporting the...

Simple questions: Is not your religions position that there is ample evidence for the support of the presence of extinct animals, thus supporting the Book of Mormons ? Was it not YOU who immediatley shot down PL's comment onthe nonexistence of horses? Therefore, does it not still fall under the topi...

Here is another link to the dog skull example http://lancelet.blogspot.com/2005/12/species-is-as-species-does-part-i_07.html My problem with his explanation is that evolutionists clearly DO use these morphological differences to describe evolutionary trees. Maybe not for cladograms, but for supporti...

Just to be fair...took 15 minutes in Google scholar...here are simply some of my sources. None are religious, none are anti-Mormon. http://www.newscientist.com/channel/being-human/human-evolution/dn9091-humans-back-in-frame-for-ancient-horse-extinction.html http://www.svguide.com/s01/s01hagerman.htm...

Oy!! (accompanied by the sound of bashing my head) I don't necessarily throw out Mormon scholars. To be honest, have nowhere near the familiarity that the others posting here have. I haven't the expertise to throw away Mormon scholars. HOWEVER, even saying that, I am not impressed by your sources be...

BTW, interesting article I found when researching horses...see the God and science thread, won't drift off here, but I thought it was significant to the credibility of the fossil record!!

DNA evidence and fossil record

When I was doing some research in to the horse question from the Spalding thread, I ran across this article from 2005. It brings up the startling conclusions that many of the horse fossils, when their mitochondrial DNA was examined, are representing the same species of horse. Kind of shakes up their...

I recently heard a great word for the kind of strategy that puritan lad is employing, the shotgun approach. Throw as many bullets as you can, none of them well thought out, hoping that one will hit. Even though he knows that their are great answers to each of them, he is hoping that at least one of...

I knew you were going to bring those articles up  ACtually, I had already done my research...and had read the articles in question (if you google horses and america they are among the first to come up)...HOWEVER... Still don't agree...your sources are only by Mormon writers. Find me a scholarl...

There is no evidence of horses before they were brought over from Europe. While scientists agree that horses existed before 10,000BC, they migrated over the land bridge and bred wildly in europe and Asia. Scholars agree that there were no horses before the Spanish broguht them over,

seems a reasonable challenge to me. If, in fact, the parallels are weak and not indicative of similar sources, then it shouldn't be incorrect to seek many parallels with other books. I think we should clarify between the themes and plots. Similarities between themes I could dismiss easily, similarit...

I personally believe it is an act of arrogance to assume that we could be so smart to see God actions even when God act in front of our eyes. To use an analogy, we might not be able to understand HOW a magician works his skills and tricks, HOWEVER, that does not exclude us from understanding that s...
