Re: (((Christians and Atheists)))

The problem is not people doing immoral things. The problem is ideologies that say it's all "blunt, meaningless indifference". That's the thing: Atheists have absolutely no basis to say anything is right or wrong. So who cares what sort of mess people create?

Re: Is my blue your blue?

I think we can determine colors just by looking at different wavelengths, etc. and giving them names, but colors are not actually real, but our brains interpretation of light, so despite the real, physical world always being the same (tree making a noise, etc.) our interpretation of it can be differ...

Re: Dealing with doubt

I have been studying apologetics for roughly 5 years now. Engaging in debate on website, through email, and in person. The common trend I have seen through debate and discussing the existence of not only God but the Christian God, is both sides will come up with extremely convincing arguments. I do...

Is my blue your blue?

A puzzle I made up. Imagine someone you know (anyone) sees colors differently than you. For example, what you see as blue, they see as orange (what you would consider orange), but since the way they learned the color is by looking at it and being told that it is blue, then they also would say it is ...

Re: Why is Richard Dawkins so popular?

I think the problem is very many people who call themselves "Christians" do not know much about their own religion or really know why they chose it. The same thing actually happens to atheists, but since there are not very many of them it happens less and you wouldn't notice it as much. That said, t...

Btw, 1over, "Please summarize the evidence for God" is not a valid statement. There are those sort of "summaries", but they take up whole websites, not single posts in a forum. This thread was the first thread I got involved in and I have to admit that my start was not very clever one. If the summa...

Re Nr.3: No matter how hard we try it's impossible to prove that robots have consciousness, feelings or free will, true preferences, etc. because we programmed them to act a certain way, therefore: 1) All their actions will be fully deterministic, which makes it hard to believe they could really dis...

I think there was just a misinterpretation of Murray's' comment.

Katsuya, you still didn't answer my question. I don't know what significance having a soul has in your religion.

Oh, btw Murray said if... He never implied that you (or anyone) did.

@ SnowDrops: Human: Definition noun, plural: humans A bipedal primate belonging to the genus Homo, especially Homo sapiens. Are human embryos and fetuses members of the genus Homo? I think yes, seeing as both its parents were. Yup, but to avoid this abortion supporters say that it has to be a wante...

Re: Check this anti-abortion site out.

Before we go on, could you answer one question: Is a fetus human or not? Why or why not? Really that's all that matters. If you intentionally kill a human, it is murder. That's it. If we start going by who is wanted or who is happy, well maybe we should kill people that are in a coma or amputees and...

Re: Check this anti-abortion site out.

A spem cell isn't on route to devolping into a human life while an embryo is, which is where the difference lies. An abortion terminates a process that will result in a human being which is why I think it is wrong while ejaculation isn't. As for calling it murder, I wouldn't go that far. I think it...

Re: Check this anti-abortion site out.

Well, do you agree abortion is murder? Why or why not? Are periods murder? Is ejaculation murder? Second trimester I would say yes unless it was to save the mother. I am against abortion... but I understand why it is currently a necessary evil. Too many people want to give birth rather than adopt. ...

Re: Laws of an Atheist Utopia

Many people mess up atheist and agnostic though. An agnostic worldview is actually almost always a legitimate position to hold, depending on how certain evidence you require. Still, at some point demanding further evidence becomes ridiculous, because the same people accept many other things as certa...
