Re: Einstein and his belief

Actually, that would be Deism, not theism. The belief that there is a god, but he is not necessarily personal and has not revealed himself to mankind (all religions are false, since they are based on revelation).

Re: Is It Legal?

I think the two main contesting theories are neo-Darwinian Evolution and Intelligent Design, neither of which are specific to some religion. In fact Intelligent Design is becoming more popular, but a lot of scientists (though not all by far) are committed to evolution, so we'll have to wait for a ne...

Re: A few questions

Hi, I recently discovered the "New Atheists" and all the debate going on about this. All in all that brought my belief in God into pretty rough waters - gathering "neutral" information on the topic seems pretty difficult, so I have a few questions for you. Both sides (argumenting for or against God...

Re: Is It Legal?

He does have a point in that macro-evolution (please use macro- and micro- so it's clear what you're talking about) is believed even by Christians (Theistic Evolution) and people from many other religions, so it's not actually a religion in itself. But that it's a "scientific fact" (which is a term ...

Venus and Mars are also technically in the "habitable zone". Vacation on Venus anyone?

Re: Just playing devils advocate for atheism

If things (like the universe) could exist without a cause, why don't things happen without a cause on a regular basis? Nothing has no boundaries. Like in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqfoiL9_deU&noredirect=1
 I love that video...

Re: Planet that can hold life found and confirmed

Well, if this is taken as an argument against theism it would mean scientists proved intelligent life evolved on another planet (which somehow refutes theism??? y:-/ y#-o )... Well, then they're doing better with that planet than this one, 'cause I don't think they proved it for this planet yet! :ro...

Re: Objective Morality?

Proinsias,
I was reading the PDF, but whoever wrote it lost me at "various degrees of truth". How does it make sense to say something is partly true, or true for someone but not for someone else?

Re: Critique of "Can Christians Use Drugs?"

Well, there are a couple of countries where it is legal, like Cambodia (de facto legal), Peru, Mexico... so it should be fairly simple to look up how much they spend on "recovery programs" and such... And this is a nice website http://www.webehigh.com/ It seems right now the US government (source: G...

Re: Homosexuality

Is drawing lines outside of religion not what the legal system is largely based upon. I thought we were discussing morality, but if you're talking about things like gay rights, etc I think it's quite meaningless to talk about ethics, since many things that are immoral are not illegal. In fact you c...

Re: Homosexuality

What I'm trying to say is that sexual preferences regardless of origin are not given validity in society based on them being of free will, genetic disposition or nurture. If we start using these types of arguments then we approach a stage of everything being permissible utilising similar approaches...

Re: Homosexuality

Hey Widge, I've got gay friends! Just to let everyone know I'm now fully qualified to post on this subject. In regards to gay people who say they were born gay, some do & some don't in my experience. I think many people view sexuality as a rather complex matter and not so much a gay/straight switch...

Re: Homosexuality

Widge, All children are born selfish. All are born liars. You don't have to teach a child to be selfish, or to lie. They will do both, naturally. Since that is the way they are born, should we simply accept it and in fact nurture such behaviors? When we start really considering how we are born, we ...

Re: Homosexuality

Katsuya, I think it would be helpful if you would say what a soul is or does in your religion. In Christianity there are animals (like insects) that have only their body - they are like biological robots. Then there are animals with souls - that is, they can feel emotions and think though not like h...
