Re: Genesis flood question to ponder

I've read tons and tons of evidence from YEC "scientists" that have been used to try and push their position on creation. Out of all that evidence, which is enough to make a book in itself, only one..yes ONE point has not been proven wrong beyond any shadow of a doubt. That point is at a standstill ...

Re: Talking to a Jehovah's Witness

Being part of a JW recovery website, I know that it is very hard to reach JW's and even those that leave have been so scarred that many become agnostic at best and Atheists at "worse". When they leave they get disfellowshipped (shunned) and even their families don't want anything to do with them. C...

Re: Talking to a Jehovah's Witness

Well, he did say that : There are no such things as homosexual animals, because, by the definition of homosexuality, animals are excluded. Homosexuality is solely human by definition. Sometimes the simple answer is the best answer. Sometimes we tend to overcomplicate things, when we don't need to. ...

Re: Acts 13:48

SF, It is important to understand 5 point Calvinism (5PC) to know where the issues lie. It is very systematic and each point does logically flow from the other. So, each point hangs or falls on the other. That is why 4PC is just a nasty compromise IMO. Ultimately, all the Lapsarian issues boil down...

Re: Speaking in tongues.

so do you think the reason these particular gifts of the spirit aren't around anymore is because they are no longer useful? We can get many different Bibles in any language you want nowadays(tongues) and what is someone going to tell us about God that isnt already in a scripture somewhere (knowledge...

Re: Acts 13:48

...do they still exist in the US? There are Presbyterians (branch of Protestant Christianity that adheres to the Calvinist theological tradition) in the US. I have couple of friends from that denomination. ok, there is a presbyterian church not too far from me. I wonder if they would be willing to ...

Re: The Flat Earth Myth

Yahoo Answers is not the first place I'd look for an insightful discussion, but the "Best Answer" on this thread is surprisingly good: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081007064502AAOn3xc It addresses Galileo and the events of his time, secretfire6. Yes, lovely answer that was. I th...

Re: lutheran changing over time???

Wow. I wonder how many practicing Lutherans acctually know all that kind of information. It really helps put things into perspective. I've read some of his letters where he's really upset at the local church leaders because he's talked to members of the church who have gone their whole lives and who...

Re: Acts 13:48

Secretfire6, If you end up doing a scriptural study about this, please start a thread with what you come up with. It's a very interesting topic. ill try and do one..i just dont know where i'd go to talk to anyone of the Calvinist side of things. I've never come across a Calvinist church...do they s...

Re: Acts 13:48

its just something that popped into my head while i was reading this whole discussion. I don't believe we as humans are predestined to be either damned or saved. The beautiful thing about Christs new covenant is that is was done for ALL people. It's a gift that has already been given to you..questio...

Re: Speaking in tongues.

The scriptures tell us over and over that if you believe that jesus is lord and that through his death and resurrection that you are saved, then you will be baptised with holy spirit/you will recieve the gift of holy spirit. That's what salvation is. I know that every true believer in that congrega...

Re: The Flat Earth Myth

I don't remember where exactly..i'm pretty sure I read it on a non religious website, but it was some time ago. I do remember it was specific in saying that the church used the verses that speak of "the four corners of the earth" as support for this view. I also remember a very in depth story about ...

Re: Speaking in tongues.

The last church I attended was an Assembly of God church here in Illinois. tounges weren't outwardly a big issue and i rarely ever heard anyone doing this. when i did, it was usually a series of repeated sylables like " lalalala, dededede tatatata etetet" or someone trying to say something that "so...

Re: Acts 13:48

i was reading this and thought of a way one could be pre appointed into eternal life. since the punishment at the time of the end for denying God and choosing to follow sin and death is to have ones name removed, blotted out or wiped away from the lamb's book of life, Then that must mean that everyo...
