Re: Multiverse opinion?

The point was that the multiverse theory was not dreamed up to provide an answer to fine tuning.

It was a posible solution to observations and mathmatics used to model reality, it was arrived at independently.

Re: Multiverse opinion?

So i was arguing with and atheist a couple days ago and he stated that there's more proof for the multiverse theory than God, is that true? Really? As far as I know the multiverse theory I'd just a wild stab of desperation by atheists to explain away the fine tuning with virtually no proof whatsoev...

Re: Sex with Neanderthals boosted human immunity

Understood. My extremely limited knowledge of the subject matter aside, it just seems to me like a lot of presuppositions go into identifying the inter-links between selective pressures, mutations, and new traits. We look at data after the fact and make inferences but we're not exactly sure what th...

Re: Why dinosaurs?

I am so lost :esad: Imagine God with a giant pool cue (pool stick) looking upon the solar system. "The Dinosaurs are nice and plump, time to make oil so that my master plan will come to fruition." "Alright", God snaps his fingers, a very large comet enters the solar system heading towards Venus. He...

Re: Gods Language

In psychology today we discussed the origins of language and how humans learn language. We also touched on the 2 views on which humans behave, humanism and behaviorism. one of the experiments (aside from victor and genie) that we looked at was when the holy roman emperor made a feral child to try t...

Re: Sex with Neanderthals boosted human immunity

My answer to this is that you asked if there were any cases of new new traits being selected for. And of course the response is that we cannot determine if selection is occuring until after the fact. So it is not a case of pulling the cart before the horse. It is a case of trying to determine where ...

Re: Sex with Neanderthals boosted human immunity

Traits don't mutate, mutations lead to new traits. Beneficial can only be defined in terms of selective pressures. Here again, can we not account for those selective pressures and trace back whether or not those new traits were as a result of specific mutations giving rise to such traits? Is there ...

Re: Sex with Neanderthals boosted human immunity

Quite a simplistic view of evolution you have there. We may not have the same selective pressures, but I have a sneaking suspicion that selective pressures still exist. And on the other side of the equation the variation of traits and appearance of new traits is probably accellerating at a pace nev...

Re: Sex with Neanderthals boosted human immunity

When it comes to general adaptation and natural selection, our new societies have kinda eliminated such possibilities... having lighter or darker skin no longer increases your chance for survival in any given place. In the days before modern transportation, food surpluses and medical care, having d...

Re: Sex with Neanderthals boosted human immunity

Sorry, what did that mean? It means he agrees with you. I understand what you're saying Zoe. But I don't understand how the different "races" developed from one, and became different over that relatively short time span. Well in order to explain this, I find that sometimes a thought experiment work...

Re: Why dinosaurs?

It is ok - they have found loads more near Dakota. Phew! It's always been there Geologists aren't fools. =) But the higher cost of oil in the market makes extraction profitable. In the 70's the cost of oil per barrel was around $20 in todays dollars. As of the writing of this post Brent is at 90.11...

Re: Adam and Eve?

Starting to read "God is not moral monster" by Paul Copan and it covers some of the aspect of slavery in there. Basically the process of the rules and laws of the old testament was to move society to a better way of life - but not in an instant - it was a gradual process and slaves in Israel where ...

Re: Adam and Eve?

OK, I'll play along for now. n this example welfare does not exist. And medical care would not be delivered until payment was made in advance. Ok, I guess in your utopia, since this is purely hypothetical, I'd probably rob a bank to pay, if it would save my loved one's life. While you are enslaved ...
