Re: Beginning of Atheistic Thinking?

Yeah, that's true. I guess I just wasn't thinking about that when I asked the question because we have the same God. Christians just believe Jesus is the Messiah and Jews do not. Right?

Re:

Alternatively, God might have created us just a few milliseconds ago, complete with all of our memories of the past; everything we remember happening more than a second ago could just be implanted memories. Don't you think? Bet you can't disprove it! That would be deception, a form of lying, which ...

Re: Beginning of Atheistic Thinking?

Thanks for the comments everyone, I think I got what I was looking for. I have another question then, if discussion on this topic is done. I'll ask it here since I don't think it would use a whole new thread. Is it true that Christianity is the only religion with a God that cares about humans (aka a...

Re: Beginning of Atheistic Thinking?

Thanks Danny. Humanity has always looked for meaning, spiritual meaning that transcends strict empiricism and the illusion of pure reason. Contrary to your quote, which has a whiff of Dawkins about it, humanity has always been on such a quest. I agree, and it seems pretty obvious to me even with the...

Re: Where does the Bible say the Earth is spherical?

He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in. Isaiah 40:22 That's the only verse I found with a quick search, other than Job 26:10, but that depends on the translation us...

Re: Beginning of Atheistic Thinking?

Thanks for the comments. I just realized this question might be harder to answer than I thought. In many early governments (Greeks and Romans for example), rejecting or criticizing the established religion was punishable by death. So people wouldn't have been openly atheist, which could make it pret...

Re: Beginning of Atheistic Thinking?

 I'm not really looking for the exact year. I'm just curious when/why atheism became so popular. I'm thinking along the lines of this verse: For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has b...

Beginning of Atheistic Thinking?

Hello everyone. I've often wondered when atheistic thinking (that is, the belief that neither our God nor any other god exists) really became a widely accepted concept. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I bring it up because I just recently came across someone who said this: "I think n...

Re: Jesus Death

A Y323: So from Romans 7:21-25 I understate that you have two natures, the sinful one (with sin as your master) and your mind (where God is your master). So each separate part of you has a master of their own. So there are no two masters for one part. That's a pretty good loophole for the whole “on...

Re: Jesus Death

A Y323: So according to John 8:34 if you sin you are a slave to sin right? If you say this I assume you never sin, since you are slave to Jesus. Because according to Matthew 6:24 you cannot have 2 masters. So since Jesus is already your master, you no longer sin, for sinning would make sin your mas...

Re: Jesus Death

Conform to the ways of the master?? Are we slaves or something? Yes. 16Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17But th...

Re: Fear of God

Hello. I may not be much help because there's still a lot I need to figure out too, but here's my interpretation of what it means to fear God. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28 (ESV) Whenever it...

Re: The historical evidence for Christ

Hello. Thanks for posting this information, I find it very interesting! I notice most of the information posted so far pertains to the crucifixion of Christ, but if you don't mind I'd like to ask a couple questions about the birth of Christ that hopefully you can help me with. We know from the Gospe...

Re: Can God keep a record of wrongs?

Wow, that helps a lot, thank you very much! I don't remember ever reading 2 Corinthians 5:21 before, but I should have because it really helps explain a lot to me. I'm still struggling to grasp just how great Christ's sacrifice is, which is probably why I had trouble with this question. I recently r...
