Re: John Wesley's theology

Where is this co-operative will in the scripture? How does it work? What is it that's placed upon the person, that he can reject?

Re: John Wesley's theology

The finished work of Christ, was for all the sins of all people everywhere. I'm not adding any qualifier, August. The qualifier already exists, in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His [a]only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. http...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Danny, please correct me if I'm wrong. You're saying that you could, in good conscience say to someone, "Christ died for your sins"? Even though you are not sure if Christ died for his sins? Yes, Rick, absolutely. The Gospel is the means by which God calls the elect. I could have such an individual...

August, here is another example of where we disagree on word meanings.

I'll try my best. What do you mean by, "secure", in this context.
Did Christ's atonement secure salvation for everyone?

Re: John Wesley's theology

Danny, I'm not asking you to agree with what jlay and I are saying. I'm just asking you to see what we're saying. A Calvinist cannot, in good conscience say "Christ died for your sins", when the Calvinist believes that Christ did not die for everyone's sins. Rick, I see what you're saying, and it i...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Danny, I'm glad to hear you say that you would rather preach the gospel, and include, "Christ died for your sins", than to hold strictly to Calvinism's "Christ only died for you if you are the elect, that God chose before time". There is hope for you, yet. :pound: Now, all you have to do, is admit ...

Re: John Wesley's theology

I am not saying you are lying. I am saying it is disingenoius. If you say to someone, Jesus died for your sins. You don't really believe that. What you beleive is, IF you are elect, Jesus died for your sins. If the person is repropate, then to present them the gospel is to ask THEM to believe a lie...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Really? You really think that? I know you don't go around telling people that. But deep down you believe it. Or you are forced to come up with bizarre (pardon the emotionalism) explanations like everyone you come in contact with is elect. It may not be a problem for you, but I've yet to see it refu...

Re: John Wesley's theology

It's not like your message doesn't have flaws too: Should we then argue that under the universal atonement way, we are to tell people that they are sinners, they need a Savior, God has sent a missionary or evangelist across their path, God even gave them grace to help them understand that, but if t...

Re: John Wesley's theology

How exactly does one go about knowing who are the elect and who aren't without preaching the Gospel to all? I tend to think this leads towards begging the question. This presumes that in the unsaved audience, there are those who are elect and reprobate in the Calvin determined view of predestinatio...

Re: John Wesley's theology

As far as I can tell, Wesley’s predestination isn’t predestination at all. At least not in the biblical sense. It ranks alongside your green door red door thing, brother. But I’ll come back to that because I want to go into depth on this. Wesley has not been forgotten. Many bright days ahead I have...

Re: John Wesley's theology

This thread was started as an attack on Wesley, and was shown early on, by myself that Wesley was misrepresented by Whitefield. That post I made and others was ignored, skipped over, whatever, in favor of discussing Calvinism, for whatever reason. The thread was an attack on Wesley’s theology, not ...
