Re: Shroud of Turin

If it could be shown that that is how it was made, and it was the authentic cloth of Jesus, that would definitely be something. :P

Re: Shroud of Turin

Someone had said earlier that if the Shroud is authentic, it, at best, merely leads to deism. If you're referring to me, I didn't say it would lead to Deism, I said if it was the authentic burial cloth of Jesus, it would only be evidence that Jesus was a living human who died. I probably said somew...

Re: Atheist response to big bang.

In my view, the evidence for God doesn't lie in biology and the "unlikelyhood that life could evolve on a planet in the goldilocks zone", but rather in cosmology and the "unlikelyhood that a universe would exist that can support matter let alone allow life to exist". I personally think that life doe...

Re: Deism

It's not necessary. It's what God chose to do. Well he could do it like that, but it seems inconsistent with the idea that he desires that all be saved. You can ask that question to anyone who holds to the existence of Hell. It doesn't matter what the qualifications are for condemnation. Someone wi...

Re: Deism

Well I have memory of what I believed since I was in my own head. I believed that Jesus was the Son of God and was crucified in place of our sin. I believed that having faith in Jesus' sacrifice saved me and that I would enter heaven after the resurrection after events of Revelation took place. I ma...

Re: Deism

So this begs the questions, how can a deist really seek God with an open an honest heart by automatically excluding the Christian world view concerning Jesus who came to save people from themselves? Again, are you sure, Seraph, you ever were really a Christian? If so, how did you know? If one is re...

Deism

As many of you know about two/three weeks ago I came out of the closet as a Deist. I'm starting this thread to hear general thoughts on Deism and discuss it. I personally think that it is the worldview that is in line with the truth, as I have faith in the arguements made by this very website for th...

Re: Ken Ham on Russell Crowe Noah Film

This movie looks dumb. Russell goshdarn Crow?!? He fights off armies? Who is he fighting and why? How does it have to do with Noah in any way?

It just seems like pandering to action movie people to me, or possibly an attempt to get negative press, since no press is bad press.

Re: Mathematical Probability Jesus was the Christ

There is one problem that comes to my mind with the calculations in the OP. Have you read those verses of the Bible in their original Old Testament context, rather than the New where they are being cited as evidence for the messiah? Oftentimes it would appear in the context of the original book that...

Re: Can Atheism Stand On Its Own Two Feet?

Okay I think I understand where you are getting at. Let me ask you a question; do you believe rape (for example) is wrong because God says it is wrong? Or do you believe rape is wrong, and God just so happens to say it is wrong as well. If you say rape is only wrong because God says it is wrong, th...

Re: Can Atheism Stand On Its Own Two Feet?

Objective morality is morality whether one believes in it or not. So it doesn't matter what one thinks is the source of it. So you agree objective morality can be as prevalent with Atheists as it is for Christians? Ken I suppose an Atheist could believe in objective morality and follow it, though p...

Re: Can Atheism Stand On Its Own Two Feet?

Atheists would probably reject objective morality outright, no? They usually say that our subjective morality is sufficient and is worth following.

Re: Can Atheism Stand On Its Own Two Feet?

Atheists often claim to be free thinkers, while embracing that we're the product of entirely physical processes and could not be other than what we are (Determinism). I'm curious, why is an Atheistic universe deterministic, yet for some reason a Christian one is not? Paul seemed to affirm the idea ...

True true, still unknown area for me though.

I could say what my temptations have been but I probably don't want them out in the open here. :P
