Re: Creation of information

Paul and Philip,
random mutations give no information. It is random mutations + natural selection that do the job. You should know.
Same as everyday trial and error. Trial is more and less random. Error is the feed back, a selection mechanism.

Re: Creation of information

But again back to the point I was making, a beneficial mutation is not the same thing as new information. A beneficial mutation is not the same thing as new information, but the message that a specific mutation is beneficial is a new piece of information (new if the receiver of the information didn...

Re: Creation of information

The data is that all bacteria after a certain time have the mutation. The meaning, the information is "If a bacterium of type A gets a mutation in position P, this mutation is beneficial". But again back to the point I was making, a beneficial mutation is not the same thing as new information. A be...

Re: Creation of information

We have "observed" the behavior of random mutation and natural selection in nature and in the lab. We have observed its frequency and we have observed its scope. Yes, we observe and get information! Information created by the process of random mutation and natural selection Just to make sure we are...

Re: Creation of information

There are two proposals on the table for the source of the information that we find in the code of DNA of life today: 1. "Random" mutation and natural selection 2. Intelligence If we want to identify a causal source for the information in the code of DNA of life today, the best choice is to choose ...

Re: Creation of information

This thread is about information and Meyer's statement 1) "Whenever we see information and we trace it back to a source it always comes to a mind, not an undirected material process". I have tried to show how Meyer could motivate rebutting The Evolution Theory from his statement. You comment this: S...

Re: Creation of information

DB, you still don't seem to understand my argument so I'll try to explain again. See this as a complement to #94 In #94 I wrote: "All these comments claim not only that when tracing backwards, as Meyer says, to a source we shall not stop at the direct source, the program in the example, but to the i...

Re: Creation of information

Meyer seems to conclude, from 2) : 3) For all processes, if we trace the information back from a process to a source the trace always comes to a mind, not an undirected material process. I would add one word to your statement... "known" For all known processes, if we trace the information back from...

Re: Creation of information

Apparently, I have to restart the discussion again. Welcome back :) Thank you. It took some effort and time to try to formulate my argument a bit more stringently so I would appreciate if you try to understand and respond to the argument. The Evolution theory says that new designs can be created by...

Re: Creation of information

Apparently, I have to restart the discussion again. The Evolution theory says that new designs can be created by the evolution process (EP) by random mutations and natural selection. (or perhaps 'found' is a better word than 'create'). Stephen Meyer objects: "Whenever we see information and we trace...

Re: Creation of information

No, no, you misunderstand me completely. I have no interest whatsoever to argue from Intelligent Design. As I stated before, I don't particularly like the ID argument and never use it. Where I'm coming from with the algorithm scenario is to tie it to a metaphysical concept called the Principle of P...

Re: Creation of information

Byblos, I am not sure what you mean but this is my thought. If you have a program that runs on a computer and you change a single bit, in most cases the program will crash or at least not work properly so I don't understand why you bring this up. From you and from others (for instance Meyer) I get ...
