Re: Commentary on Gen 1-2

Jac,

What is your opinion on the Gap theory. It seems to leave 'Yom' as one day, but also explains othe issues.

Do you see any scriptural confilcts in the Gap Theory?

Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Commentary on Gen 1-2

I do not know what Walton's theory is. Is this commentary on the creation similarly aligned with Walton's? From Strand Study Bible: The creation story in Genesis makes use of two contrasting words that are often confused in the English translation of the Bible —the English words create (bah-rah - vs...

Re: Commentary on Gen 1-2

I wouldn't read anything into the "unspecified period of time", however. That only matters based on our understanding of yom as an age, which, I suppose, we are conceding for now. The more important question is whether or not this is part of the first day , which I suggest it has to be. T...

Re: James' sustained argument

Thanks Byblos, I have been well. I have changed jobs a few times since the last time I logged on. But this newest job has been keeping pretty busy... My pastor's Bible reference work that he was working on is finally to the printer. And will be available next month. I am very excited about it. If yo...

Re: James' sustained argument

Great post Jac. If I understand you correctly, you are saying that the temptations give us the opportunity to act faithfully. But if we struggle with it we can ask God for wisdom to overcome the temptation. I also think that it is using wisdom when we act by faith. But as we act by Faith, God reveal...

Re: Interacting with the world and actions vs. faith

Byblos is correct, salvation has nothing to do with works. Grace and works don't mix (Romans 11) This, along with what Fürstentum Liechtenstein said about goals, is pretty much what I thought. But our works do affect the rewards we will receive in heaven. And back to the first Post: AndrewK, I used...

Re: Interacting with the world and actions vs. faith

If i don't know my spirituals gifts, how can i earn rewards? Many churches have spiritual a gift test to help you determine what your spiritual gift(s) are. You receive your spirtual gift(s) when you accept Christ. But this gift still need to be developed through faith and practice. And faith comes...

Re: Is modern Christianity REALLY biblical??

Byblos, It sounds like you attend a great church, that teaches their members well. And I am trying to be completely sincere when I say that If I am wrong about the Catholic doctrine, I completety apologize. I am just coming from my experiences and from what I ahve been told by Catholics that I have ...

Re: Should Christians mix with non-Christians?

Being with non-Christians ALL the time might not be a good idea. It is easier for them to pull us down then it is for us to pull them up. But as long as there is time in the Word and time with Christians to help keep us accountable, it could be good to be in the world, just not of the world. I perso...

Re: Is modern Christianity REALLY biblical??

Now if one knows what the Catholic Doctrines teach and agrees with all of them, then the chances are pretty good that one is not a Christian, even though one may profess to be. (see Math 7:21-22) There are so many things I disagree with in your post but the above really tops the cake. So if one adh...

Re: Is modern Christianity REALLY biblical??

First off, Christianity did not start with the birth or even the death of Christ. It started with the promise of a coming Messiah. (Of course it was not originally called Christianity.) The promise of a Messiah is first eluded to in Gen 3:15. So Chrsitiananity is at least 6000 years old. Old testame...

Re: the meaning of abundant life

That is a good point that it says it twice. This is how I view it, keeping in mind I am just a man and could be wrong: The first time is referring to justification. The second time is referring to rewards given to those Christians that finish their race. This is the sanctification process. We are sa...
