Re: Can God Ever Have An Original Thought?

I wouldn't say God is unchanging i mean the second person of the trinity now has a human nature to which He did not have before. God can no doubt take on different physical forms (of Three Men, in Genesis 18:1–33); (of the Wrestler, in Genesis 32:22–30); (of Jesus, in Matthew 1:23); (of the Burning...

Can God Ever Have An Original Thought?

My small group was recently discussing characteristics of God, of His standing outside of time, how the distant future is to Him as is yesterday. I made the statement that "God has never had an ORIGINAL thought." And, for a moment, everyone looked at me with a strange, worried ("that'...

Re: Free will and Omniscience

While various aspects Five Pointers believe are no doubt true, the horrendous idea that men were, effectively, born without ANY choice or even the ability to choose Jesus (EVEN WITH the availability and necessity of God's help) to RECEIVE salvation did not enter the church for its first 15 centuries...

Great, Rick! Sorry if I was redundant on the way to my points.

Re: Free will and Omniscience

Rick, Unconditional Election is the doctrine which states that God chose those whom he was pleased to bring to a knowledge of himself, not based upon any merit shown by the object of his grace and not based upon his looking forward to discover who would "accept" the offer of the gospel. My...

Re: Free will and Omniscience

Rick can't reconcile: God has elected, based solely upon the counsel of his own will, some for glory and others for damnation So, just what is God's WILL? This is explained in 1 Timothy 2:4: His will is that He "...wants ALL people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." But ...

Re: Free will and Omniscience

RickD wrote:I still cannot reconcile God choosing, without any doing on man's part, eternal damnation for some people. It's VERY simple. God chose before our births our eternal destinations, based upon: 1) His merciful and loving choice to love us and reach to us FIRST; 2) To give us free will and ...

Re: Free will and All loving vs. Predestination and Devine *

Call it what you will - whatever theological identification, whatever term. But the bottom line is that it's an enormous mistake to believe that God has not put a choice before EVERYONE (whether to follow him, to repent, to accept Jesus, etc), that they can ALL choose to obey - or not. In Acts 17:30...

Re: I need a short concise answer please

Knowing beforehand is still knowlwdge... True, knowing beforehand is indeed knowledge. But God's knowing the freely chosen acts of man beforehand in no way means that GOD causes men to act sinfully, as our sinful actions are merely a carrying out through action of what is already in one's heart and...

Re: I need a short concise answer please

If we didn't have free will, then ALL of our decisions would be GOD'S decisions. But as we know that God cannot sin, and as we know that as men we constantly do so - and most horrifically at times - then we also know we have free will.

Re: I need a short concise answer please

If we do not have free will, then God would be the cause of our sin. Our free will also comes within precise parameters God has set for us: We cannot fly or walk through walls. Our days are fixed, and God at times intervenes, sways, and sometimes completely alters events as he so desires - despite o...

Well, let's see, scripture tells us that David had eight wives and (at least) ten concubines. That sounds pretty heterosexual to me!

Re: Are we afraid hard questions around here?

First of all, although meant to be a comparison to the Biblical story, the setup of the scientist's scenario is an extremely poor parallel: The scientist is obviously this scenario's supposed parallel of a God figure. Supposedly very intelligent because he is a scientist, he sets up a scenario any ...

Re: Petition for Palestinians to Keep their Homes

Yes, I think as Christians we should support Israel. However, we must realize that 1) Israel is not a theocracy today; 2) Most Jews in Israel are secular in personal practice; 3) Israel as a nation and as individuals can and have done things they shouldn't have, at times they've treated people in wa...
