Re: John Wesley's theology

As for me, my loyalty is with Jesus Christ and not the doctrines of man. To him alone are we to be loyal too. These Canons had led to killing of many. Christ leads to life. This is about as relevant as saying, “The bible has led to the killing of many.” It appears to me, in my opinion that many wel...

Re: John Wesley's theology

B.W., my aim was to show the doctrines of sovereign grace go back much farther than Calvin. You can do what you want with the canons, but the point I wanted to make, was made.

Canuckster1127 wrote:Danny, You're right. Now I understand why you asked earlier if I was speaking to you or PL. It was PL who made the comment and I confused the two of you. I'm sorry and thanks for correcting me. My clarification however still stands.
I thought I was going bonkers for a minute there! :)

Re: John Wesley's theology

Bart, please produce my words. I have looked back through the thread and can't find me even hinting that fallen man can "choose to accept Christ without God regenerating them before they do so." And this is even more baffling: "Your comment as to Calvinism allowing for choice doesn't ...

Re: John Wesley's theology

I actually agree that PLs reasoning is consistent here. It's meaningless to speak of non-volitional predestination in one instance but not in its reverse. Many Reformed or Calvinist believers either don't understand or are uncomfortable with the implications of their belief in this regard. That's w...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Bart, can you quote me where I said this. I'm looking and can't see it. The scope of how you're using the word "choice." My comment was to clarify that in terms of the choice to accept God or not, 5 point Calvinism's position is that there is no choice, as fallen man cannot even choose to ...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Just as a point of information and confirm what Jlay is saying, most 5 point double predestination Calvinists that I've intereacted (actually all of them or they wouldn't be 5 point double presdestination Calvinists) do in fact assert that regeneration takes place before faith/belief on the premise...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Brother Danny, always a delight to speak with you. You too, brother :) If Christ was an actual propitiation for the sins of all men everywhere, then God's anger towards every sinner is totally appeased, and everyone is saved. These are two steps, not one. Christ lifts the sins of the whole world, b...

Re: John Wesley's theology

If God sends a man to hell, even though he is a sinner - is because GOD withholds His grace from the man, it means the man had no opportunity to be saved. Thus even if the man is a sinner as all men are, God is a party to the man's unbelief and it is God ultimately who unjustly sends a man to hell ...

Re: John Wesley's theology

1 John 2:1-2 But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. Brother Neo, "propitiation" is not merely a potential substitution ; it is an actual...

Re: John Wesley's theology

The doctrines of Calvinism are not new. The Canons of the Council of Orange (529 AD) http://www.grace.org.uk/faith/ccorange.html CANON 1. If anyone denies that it is the whole man, that is, both body and soul, that was "changed for the worse" through the offense of Adam's sin, but believes...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Danny wants to know how I know what the vast millions of Christians have believed? Well, Danny, we know what churches and traditions most Christians around the world have come out of. We know how few, compared to the vast majority of churches, worldwide, are preaching or have historically preached ...

Re: John Wesley's theology

Hold on Danny, change the phrasing a bit and it mirrors back. For example, Rev 7:9, "After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, wit...
