I guess all I can say is that if you keep seeking this higher power, your creator, the Lord will lead you back to Him. I am seeking, Felgar. I just don't want to comfort myself with beliefs that are not true. My hope right now is that there is ... Someone who cares for us ... but that is just MY ho...

All the hatred of religion against "this life" sometimes veils how unique and wonderful "this life" really is. Yep, definitely not an illusion, not a myth, just rejoicing reality, with all its flaws and miseries... Like the whole world was anew. Do you think that people turn to ...

Hi vvart, Seedling you need tighter analysis, for example the Pharisees figured out that Jesus was saying he is God. If I'm not mistaken, I believe they were upset because he said he was the "son of God." Perhaps in those times and in that culture that was equivalent to saying "I am e...

I lied to myself for many years, but finally I broke the pressure of education and environment and only recently "came out of the closet" to express my particular opinion on the subject. All my family is Catholic, my education was Catholic and I grew up in a Catholic society. That's the m...

"You know, when I was a Christian, this idea of punishment or reward was pushed on me." It was never "pushed" on me, but I knew it was there, hanging in the background. "who are we to expect an afterlife? Just a bunch of creatures evolved from less sophisticated creatures a...

Moreover, I don't need or want an afterlife Hi atheist, This statement intrigues me ... are you so content with your life and what you have seen and done on this earth that you don't even need an inkling of a hope for an afterlife? Why wouldn't you want it? I'm not saying there is or isn't an after...

For what it's worth, since this is a God and Science (or bible and science) board, I am in the process of reading two very interesting books (interesting to me, anyway). The first one is "The Mind of God" by Paul Davies. Davies is a professor of mathematical physics at the University of Ad...

Hi vvart, "Father, take this cup away from me." "Pray to your Father in heaven." "Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall by no means pass away. But concerning that day and hour, no one knows, not even the angels of the heavens nor the son, but the Father only.&q...

I believe there is a Force, a Power greater than us who created all things. It just makes sense to me from everything I have read about the formation of the universe so far ... Who, what, where, how, why are just mysteries that every human being speculates about and is desperate to know and writes h...

Hi bizzt, I used to believe every word of the bible was "God inspired." For over 20 years. Now I believe that it is a collection of men's writings who are searching for God, for the truth, for the reason for their being. We are alone on this earth, and it is a scary place. Man needs to bel...

Are you a Deist then? I'm not positive what you mean by this, but if you are asking if I believe in a Creator, in something greater than myself that created me and everything I see around me, the earth, seas, universe, etc. then yes, I guess I would be a deist as opposed to an atheist, as an atheis...

Thank you kateliz. But my post was for this thread, as I do believe in a Creator, a Great Spirit, a Supreme Being, Allah, Yaweh, Jehovah, I AM THAT I AM, and whatever other names men have for ... Him. I do not question the Creator's existence.

The problem with both Islam and Christianity (and all the other man-made religions that seeks to define "God") is that you are defining the Creator by the images you have in your mind of what that Creator should be. Or you are taking the images that the men who wrote the Bible and the Qu'r...

Hey Mastermind, For what it's worth, I haven't read The Blind Watchmaker but I have read two other Richard Dawkins books, The Devil's Chaplain and Unweaving the Rainbow. Richard Dawkins doesn't believe in "God" but I really liked these two books and like the way Dawkins writes, and after r...

Darwin, getting back to the gay thing ... let me ask you something. You continually say that you define "good" in part by the majority ... if I understand you correctly, you believe that through the ages what is "good" has been fleshed and defined, more or less, by many people. T...
