Re: Question about Genesis

Hoopty, The sun, moon and stars were created "In the beginning," not on day one or four. Genesis 1:1 "the heavens and the earth" is a merism meaning the entire universe and all it contains. Days one, two and four are about the transforming of the atmosphere. Look at Genesis 1:2. ...

Re: framework model

Day four does not parallel well with day one. Day four says that the lights are given in the firmament which was produced on day two, not day one. Day five refers to the creatures in the seas, but seas were not divided or named until day three, not day two. The term "waters" is also used ...

Re: Literal snake in the Garden of Eden?

Essene, Where does scripture teach this ? It does not, that I know of, but it makes sense. If eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil was a sin, then God was to be the supplier of the knowledge. Where does it say that Adam and Eve die spiritually ? There is more than one kind of death...

Re: Literal snake in the Garden of Eden?

Essene, The Serpent (Satan- Rev. 12:9, 13-17, 20:2) told a half truth. And a whole lie (when he contradicted God, who cannot lie- Titus 1:2; Hebrews 6:18). God said they would die (truth). Satan said they would not (lie). 4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5For God doth k...

Re: Ages according to the Bible

I believe the ages in Genesis 5 and 11 are real. There are gaps in the genealogies, so they can not be added up. One example is in Luke 3:36 (Cainan) see Gen. 11:12. Adam and Eve could have become immortal if they had eaten from the Tree of Life. Marcosll , 1) Reptiles living during the time of huma...

Re: Literal snake in the Garden of Eden?

Essene, What denomination do you belong to? You sound like a Unitarian Universalist. Luke 17:21 Jesus is speaking to the non-believing Pharisees. The translation "within you" is only correct if the "you" has a general meaning, i.e. the kingdom is spiritual. The Pharisees did not ...

Re: Struggling with the Old Testament

Hoopty,

It is my opinion that as a nation they are still the chosen ones, but as individuals they must each come to faith in Christ.

Re: Photosynthesis and an Old Earth

The quick answer is that the sun, moon and stars were created "In the beginning," not on day four. Genesis 1:1 "the heavens and the earth" is a merism meaning the entire universe and all it contains. Days one, two and four are about the transforming of the atmosphere. Look at Gen...

Re: the age of the earth

rational skeptic, How old is the earth according to the Bible? Let me rephrase that question: does the majority of christians believe the earth is as old as scientist say it is? if they don't agree with scientist, then what age do they give the earth? Young earthers usually say 6,000 to 10,000 years...

Re: Struggling with the Old Testament

No, just those who have faith in Christ (Galations 3:13-14, 28-29). Romans 3:29-30. The Old Testament believers looked forward in faith to the comming Messiah, we now look back in faith.

Re: Struggling with the Old Testament

The Israelites were God's chosen people (Genesis 17:1-11; Deuteronomy 7:6-9).

Yes, they messed up a lot. Lucky for them as a nation God is faithful (Deut. 7:9). As much as I mess up, I'm glad He is faithful (II Tim. 2:13).

Hello David, Yes, they have made a lot of changes in the past week. Until this month they had a live 2-hour webcast that you could call in during. That went on for years, but now they have broken it down into three podcasts. One " I Didn't Know That " is where they now answer e-mails. I ho...

Re: Microevolution/Progressitive Creation

Anonymiss, Those verses in Ecclesiastes do say that. The meaning is that like animals we are made from the dust and when we die, we will return to the dust. Man and animals were also given life by God. You might also want to check out Ps. 49:12, 20; 73:22 and Eccl. 9:12 The author is quite depressin...
