Why is this so difficult. It seems that we struggle I mean really struggle to try and fit our world view with scripture, when we know that scripture didn't know about cellphones, airplanes, Microwave ovens, speed of light, Gravity, Electrons, the power of the atom, the silicon chip, the microprocess...

Right, religion use badly can cause harm. Just as a toothpick used badly does.

Good message. So why is Faith in virgins used badly? If we can answer\solve that, maybe we will have a spitting chance in some success.

Dr Phil, would say "If you don't own it, you can't get past it."

I fully recognize and own the harm our religion has caused in the past, and hope never to have cause to repeat those mistakes.

I agree completely. Secularism isn't the best answer to this. I like to point out this kind of stuff, to remind us, that we are human. Those that think they are following "the way", aren't necessarily doing that. And I feel that we need to take care in what decisions we make as Christians....

Does religion cause harm?

I think religion does cause harm, it's history is swamped with harm, destruction, bombings, burnings etc... But also, I think provides other functions as well. Would life be good if we were rid of Religion? I am not certain of that. I am certain that it would be better if no extreme religion existed...

your right, it makes no difference to the dead guy. However, society has a vested interest in the cause of whether intent was causal. It is this protection that we as citizens have, that is important to the living. It is of moral value that we are interested in intent. And if intent of harm is found...

Doctors will give a patient risks. And statistical valid information. If your talking about treatment of something. I would agree that chopping someone up, or burning them at the stake, causes harm. Would you? If your appendix bursts, do you go see your Priest, or do you go see a doctor? Not all doc...

Yes, Doctors are the only legal profession that have "Do no harm".

I never thought Wiccan or Janism was a legal profession.

Could be wrong though.

It is the in the Doctor's creed my friend.
On the bases if ask a doctor if it is harmful or not.
If a doctor says, its not harmful. Then I would think it's not harmful.

Let me ask you a question. Consider the mustard seed. Let's say we make it illegal to kill mustard plants. Does that also mean destroying a single mustard seed is also illegal. I mean with cultivation, it would become a mustard plant. You can't define human life within bound sets. You can however es...

Actually it isn't Wiccan where this comes from.
What legal profession may this come out of, and when you can answer that question, you can answer the next one you asked.

And you can't deny the child abuse that goes on in the Catholic religion! Or you could deny it I guess. The Catholic church is in a suspended state of denial about the problems with Priests and pedophiles. The secular public more or less thinks that this is synonymous. I must admit that being a prie...

I figure creationist are synonymous with "young earth theorists".

What I mean is that hard core religion doesn't want science to work on stem cell research, because of their belief that a few day old cells actually make up a human being.

Sorry if you misunderstood my meaning.

silver, you really need to get out more. The problem with studying genes is simple. We don't know what information in the gene's is pertinent to our "individualness". Evolution isn't detracted by the amount of differences there are between us, we know there is a boatload of differences. Bu...
