Re: Justices side with Colorado baker on same-sex wedding cake

Spoken like a true left liberal in 2018. I'm not paying for "membership in the community". A "community" of strangers nonetheless. People whom I have nothing in common with other then a superficial obligation talk and hope they won't be crazy, stalk me, spy or steal from me as I gradually get to kn...

Re: Justices side with Colorado baker on same-sex wedding cake

Your house is state property. Your property taxes are "rent". I've been looking overseas at houses where there are no property tax. Planning on leaving for a while now. I just need to get the guts to do it. Your house is yours (or, more likely, the bank's). Your property taxes are the fees that you...

Re: Justices side with Colorado baker on same-sex wedding cake

Stu - I'm not outraged, but I disagree with the decision. It was a narrow one, though, so I don't think that we're looking at an America where Christians can do whatever they feel like while hiding behind religious privilege. That's something, at least. I'm not familiar with the coffee shop thing an...

Re: Justices side with Colorado baker on same-sex wedding cake

And out of the woodwork come the newly emboldened bigots righteous, vindicated Christians.

Re: Abortion - Irish have done it. Consequences ?

Neo, I hope things are going well with your dad. Stu, we know when fetal brain function begins. It can be reliably detected at about 25 weeks using an EEG. The onset of brain activity is the closest we come to a consensus view of when life begins, both among scientists and laypeople. That's why 25 w...

Re: Abortion - Irish have done it. Consequences ?

Stu... Ok, so first off this seems one of those instances where the Old Testament counts. I've never quite grasped the sporadic acceptance of OT law, but I've come to accept that sometimes it counts and sometimes it doesn't, there's a good reason for that, and it's definitely not just cherry-picking...

Exodus 21:22-25 King James Version (KJV) 22 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. 23 And if any mischief fo...

Re: Abortion - Irish have done it. Consequences ?

The ACPeds is a conservative advocacy group that opposes abortion and adoption by same-sex couples and favors abstinence-only sex education. Taking their claims as the unbiased, evidence-based position of the scientific community as a whole is like declaring that cigarettes are harmless because Citi...

Re: Abortion - Irish have done it. Consequences ?

There's no scientific consensus on when life begins. There's not even a consensus on when a fetus reaches viability.

Re: Pope: GOD made people gay

Ed, I like that getting the government out of marriages and unions allows everyone the freedom to pursue whatever they like, and to call it whatever they like. And it stops ALL favoritisms from government - thus ending accusations of discrimination. I'd be fine with that. My problem with the argume...

Re: Pope: GOD made people gay

Easy solution - kill special treatments and benefits for EVERYONE! So it's easier to burn the whole thing down than give everyone a seat at the table? Really? Note also that the various favoritisms under the law for marrieds discriminate against single people. Can you think of an example where that...

Re: Pope: GOD made people gay

I'm American, so when I discuss marriage equality (or the defense of traditional marriage, as the other side called it) I come at it from an American perspective. So here's how it is in the USA: In the United States the sacred union of two people in the eyes of God is called "marriage," and so is th...

Re: Pope: GOD made people gay

That fact you see it as "marriage equality" shows you don't see what the root issue is about for Christians and many who believe in God. That , is, disingenuous. Beat your wife much Ed? (also disingenuous) Your understanding of marriage is completely different as to not be the same as ours. Q: What...

Re: Pope: GOD made people gay

Nonetheless, Byblos is essentially correct as I see matters, and so I'd not quibble much with him. Because, what Ed has in mind is a civil union and not "marriage" itself (like we understand) -- marriage being a real metaphysical construction beyond humanity and regardless of what any human thinks....

Re: Pope: GOD made people gay

I'm assuming by 'marriage' Ed means a civil union as a 'religious' marriage wouldn't mean much to him. On that basis, let me ask you a question, Ed, are you (and by you I mean society in general) really prepared to accept the ramifications of same sex civil unions? And before you ask, here are but ...
