Re: Help me out with this statement
Weaseling out of a 'burden of proof' seems a little harsh. It's a little like 'meet my demands or recant your position'. People choose agnosticsm/atheism/theism for a variety of reasons often wholly ignorant of, or largely unconcerned about, modal logic. It seems no more controversial than assertin...

Re: Help me out with this statement
The dictionary is your friend: as·sert əˈsərt/Submit verb state a fact or belief confidently and forcefully. TO assert something is to state a belief or a fact in a confident and forceful way. When any atheist states that He/She does not believe that a god exists, they are asserting that view. Unle...

BTW that pic is from this thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/Christianity/comments/30sskm/bathroom_theology/ He is a philosophy student at UNC - Chapel hill, and his logic is from De Malo by Thomas Aquinas. It gels with Isaiah 45:7 https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/Isaiah%2045:7 "I form the li...

Re: Science, scripture and the age of the universe
Put simply, some people try to pound a square peg in a round hole; but, if they stepped back and looked at that peg from a different angle, they'd see that it is actually a cylinder, and when it approaches the problem differently, it fills that hole perfectly.

Hundreds of Proofs of God's Non-Existence
http://www.thomism.org/atheism/atheist_logic.html Some real ones I have seen and some that are just plain funny: 68. ARGUMENT FROM ATHEISM (II) (1) Atheism is simply a lack of belief. (2) Therefore it cannot be wrong. (3) Kind of like how, for example, lacking belief in gravity when stepping off a 9...

Help me out with this statement
It seems to me to be full of contradictions and intellectual backflips: You're right that if someone asserts something, they should demonstrate why its true. The problem comes at this assumption you have that atheists are people who assert no god exists. When someone comes up to you and says "T...

Re: The Genesis Theory
God's Word is truth -- the Genesis account of creation Is God's Word telling mankind how this world / earth / people got here. The old-earth position gives room for evolutionary development needing millions of years. Young earth is God using 6 days to do it. Since God IS all powerful -- why not Giv...

Re: Just came back from a service that made me doubt my fait
That's a damn good rant Melanie; I'm totally taking the term "churchianity". ;) I get more out of my own personal studies than I got out of the churches I've been to so far here. I'm not an overtly social person. I do have social needs but they are met in small, informal groups of familiar...

Just came back from a service that made me doubt my faith.
I'm still trying to digest why. Was it the large gift store we saw on the way in? Was it the feeling that we weren't in a church but a convention center or airport terminal? Was it the stage complete with concert-style lights on scaffolding? The two television-worthy camera rigs in the back, filming...

Re: new study on nde's says they are real
So is there any evidence that Christians experience NDEs different from non-believers? Has anyone really gotten into the nuts-and-bolts of the afterlife in regards to NDEs? I do think that people who have NDEs see what they need to see, and it's not necessarily a complete indication of what awaits o...
