"The Word" in John is not information. The Word in John is Jesus Christ.

Re: The LOST Arts of Reading and Communicating
It's not entirely new. Before the new technologies, people complained that people read too much shallow books like romances and not the classics. I grew up with a love of reading. Even as a young teenager, I read philosophy and history and my pleasure reading tended to be authors like Tolkien, Lewis...

No worries. I'm sorry I came across as insensitive. I can do that on occasion.DRDS wrote:Oh, and um, sorry about that Bart.

Re: Problem of evil
Part of the problem, as I see it, is that we bring western philosophy to Hebraic Scriptures and ask questions looking for answers that would have been foreign to those writing the original texts (even under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit) and the original hearers or readers of what is written. T...

Re: Needing some apologetics resources for a friend
You're reading a tone in there apparently that I didn't intend. My answer was sincere and it wasn't intended to be dismissive. My answer really is how I view a lot of the apologetics that are structured teaching resources of institutions. Their value is limited in my opinion and experience. It's far...

Re: Needing some apologetics resources for a friend
I'm sure there are many such resources out there. I gave up a long time ago trying to figure out how I "should" live. Now I just live out of whom God says I am. It took me many years to realize the answers I thought I needed and had with all my "shoulds" were to the wrong question.

Re: Higgs boson theorist criticizes Richard Dawkins
There is no question that there are arrogant hateful "Christians". That doesn't excuse or justify hateful arrogant responses. All Dawkins is in many regards is the personification of everything he claims to dislike in religion, manifested into atheism. He's a reflection of what he claims t...

Re: Newtown Massacre & Gun Control
This, to me, is an example of the all or nothing mentality that is brought to these problems that is counterproductive. The goal of looking at these things is not to assert that all risk of all incidents happening can be completely removed. If someone is committed to going on a rampage, they can do ...

Re: Shame on Al Gore
9/11 certainly has had a big impact and prior to that it's been present in history. Maybe I'm more sensitive to it in general, but I do see it quite often, both in my own dealings here in the Washington DC area where I live and work and in the media, and I even (shudder) watch Fox News on occasion a...

Re: Shame on Al Gore
Speaking as one who lived in the US, I see regular evidence of anti-Arab, anti-Islamic prejudice. I recognize the extreme factions and the danger represented from that direction. Lumping them all together culturally and religiously isn't a valid approach. It's an easy one and there's plenty of peopl...

Re: Facebook atheists are at it again!
Some of it is an example of someone taking the literal hermeneutics employed by some Christians and using them to turn it around against them. That's one reason why some elements of atheism, particularly New Atheists, point to the most extreme elements of Christianity and use them the characterize t...
